Is there much of a difference between the HIGH and ULTRA settings for Buildings/Trees/Grass and Bushes in MSFS? I decided to switch these settings to ULTRA mode on my i5 7600K/GTX 980Ti powered PC, but it does not seem to have affected performance. I am just curious if there is any significant visual difference.

For the record, I also increased my TLOD from 250 to 300 🙂

Yikes, no can do that here and I have a decent rig!  Well I could, but prefer all the other settings where they are, maxed out and then some.  TLOD is brutal on the main thread.

If you haven’t already tried it, I’d recommend this. It seriously like magic…

This is what puzzles me. I keep being told that, but it seems to work fine at 300 (although 400 induces stutters during take offs and landings). Please note that AI planes are not active.

I run all the time using AutoFPS and a TLOD of 400 once in the air, I have zero main thread issues doing it this way. Yes if you try and run  TLOD of 400 on the ground at a busy airport your FPS are going to tank. This is why AutoFPS is such a great add-on.

TBH I don't see all the much diff between 100 and 400, which may be because I'm so focused on flying the plane and managing crew I just don't notice that much, and I use FSLTL which adds load for sure.

The aspect that annoys me about the terrain in MSFS is that the elevation data in small sections of it does not "kick in" until I am quite close. Good examples of this are the island in the bay short of the runway 01 threshold at LGSK Skiathos, the narrow central section of Sark in the Channel Islands, and one side of Ailsa Craig (southwest of Turnberry in Scotland). I do not understand why bits of islands can be rendered whilst other bits are not, and when much more distant elevated terrain is displayed  I really hope that MS/Asobo sort that out, because it leads to ridiculous situations where trees are being rendered suspended in mid air!!

AutoFPS works great for me.  I have 60 FPS (or close to)

on ultra settings most of the time using the FG mod and am able to use TLOD at 300.  Before using these mods, I had to keep TLOD at 200.

I do have a couple of addon airports I use together with freeware photo scenery or objects where I struggle a bit (Birmingham and Glasgow spring to mind).

One odd thing I've noticed recently since I started using the game bar is that whilst my VRAM is almost maxed out, my CPU utilisation is showing between 6% in cruise up to 50% flying low over photo scenery - I was expecting CPU usage to be much higher and wonder if this is a symptom of another issue.
