May 6, 20242 yr The sidestick in the TCA Captain Pack Airbus Edition has a number of buttons. I know these buttons can be mapped to different functions in the MSFS Control Options. My question is regarding introducing and assigning custom functions to these buttons. For example, out-of-the-box the button that is assigned to function CAMERA | COCKPIT CAMERA | PREVIOUS PILOT POSITION is JOYSTICK POV DOWN. What I would like to happen is when I hit JOYSTICK POV DOWN for the view to change to look down instead of going to the previous pilot position. The key strokes for this are SHIFT + DOWN ARROW. Can this be done ? Some direction on how will be appreciated. zachlog
May 6, 20242 yr I've moved this to the MSFS forum, since it's about MSFS software configuration and not the hardware itself. I have mapped this to camera views via my hat switch and the buttons on the stick (so I go directly to a saved camera view)... and I cycle through the camera views also. You can set them up also for external camera views... That's because I have TrackIR5, so don't need the hat switch for the look around function... Have also a setup per aircraft, for aircraft with manual trim I use two positions of the hat switch. If this is what your looking for PM me and I will share screenshots from the Fenix Airbus for example and the PMDG 737. André

First I want to see if this can be done without getting yet one more product, and if not, I will go in the JoyToKey direction. Thanks ! zachlog

May 6, 20242 yr Yes it can be done and is very easy and quick to do. You delete the old assignments and add an assignment for any command you want to the hat movement of your choice to perform. You can make that hat down switch movement to be for to change to the slew mode, or turn on the autopilot, or drop the water rudder, or zoom in the view, raise the flaps fully up, open the ATC window, increase the speed of drone movements, or any one of hundreds of other tasks. Or you can make it do more than one task at the same time. Or you can make it do things that only happen while you are in outside (chase) view but not in cockpit view. Or in cockpit view and slew view and drone view but not in outside view or something equally weird. Almost none of my assignments on buttons or hats are the default ones. I also reassigned all the F keys on the keyboards to do some things that are actually useful instead of silly stuff like changing the prop pitch. It makes more sense to me to put prop, power, and mixture changes onto levers instead of onto key presses. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. May 6, 20242 yr Case in point: There is an up/down rocker on the back of the hand grip on my main throttle. I use that to fully retract or fully extend the flaps. So immediately after touchdown with hand still on throttle, I can just pull up my finger and the flaps fully retract. And immediately before touchdown I push down my finger to make double sure the flaps are fully extended when I'm over the threshold. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Indeed flexible to configure for local preferences, have the captain set so no need to use the slider... André
May 6, 20242 yr The choices increase dramatically if you have a 32 button Stream Deck. With pages, the number of buttons is hundreds instead of 32. But arranged logically in groupings by the user on each page, and with text or images showing you what each button will do. You can use any image that you yourself design or find already published nline. Each of those 32 buttons are a tiny computer display monitor as well as a switch. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. I prefer in my case the airbus throttle and spoiler and flaps and more with the miniFCU and a dedicated tiller unit I'm going for a mini airbus cockpit 🙂 But I can imagine that with 32 buttons you could do it as well... I have chosen a different route 🙂 André
May 6, 20242 yr Your route is better for flying an Airbus. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
May 6, 20242 yr A streamdeck does just about anything, but it does some things not very well. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Still at the lookout to upgrade the stick and throttle unit too and EFIS + ECAM + overhead o well... 🤣 Two Ipads do the job also for charts and EFB and FMS... The beauty of this hobby is to tailor the hardware to your own preference and usage, nothing wrong or right just different. With MSFS open up for more hardware solutions, it becomes more mature. May 7, 20242 yr Another choice is a Knobster, small auxiliary touchscreen (or two), and Air Manager. Your normal main screen + the one or two touchscreens. (This guy as 3 main screens: overkill). 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
