Considering FS 2 Crew for PMDG 737

Featured Replies

Which version is the better one, SOP 1,2 or 3?

I fly a lot in Europe and really like SOP2 which I’m guessing is unofficially Ryanair.

They model different types of airline and different distribution of work between captain and co-pilot.

SOP 1 - GENERALIZED STOCK BOEING

SOP 2 - EUROPEAN LOW COST AIRLINE

SOP 3 - UNITED STATES BASED LOW COST AIRLINE

SOP 1 is a basic stock Boeing version which is used by most airlines...

SOP2 is for Ryanair. If you fly in Europe and in particular for Ryanair this will suit you.

SOP3 is for Southwest Airlines. If you travel mainly in the USA, SOP 3 is for you.

So which one is better? for me none, they all are. I have a preference for SOP3. In SOP 1 you're only the PF, in SOP 2 you're both PM and PF and the same for SOP 3. But the SOP 3 is more realistic. But it's a question of taste.

Wait... these are $30 AND another $20 if you want "an animated FO", and just for ONE variant..?

Yeah... hard pass...

I would recommend FSFO, it does not install all kind of menu's in your sim.

You can set it up as you want and it has just a small menu which runs outside the sim.

You can also choose to only use checklist or do all the flows etc.
I only use it for the checklist since I like to do the rest myself.

With FS2Crew if I uninstall it still a lot of the software is there.

I'd recommend FS2 Crew if you want to follow the proper SOP's.  If you don't, don't.

Might look at Multicrew Experience as well.  One purchase, works will every supported aircraft (most airliners in the sim), is not as "scripted" (in some of the other programs, if you get out of order on anything the virtual FO is confused; in MCE he'll do what you tell him when you tell him), and it is completely customizable.  It comes with packaged checklists and flows like the others, but you can make your own.  I've faithfully re-created all my airline's call outs and checklists in MCE on the 737 just to see if I could, and I've got to tell you, it's kind of surreal.

to be fair the animated FO adds lots of immersion, especially since you can see it/him/her reach for and switch/toggle items at the correct times.  If you dont care about that I dont see why getting FS2Crew for $20 less should be considered a bad thing.  FS2Crew has been $30 for the standard package for ages now, not sure why them innovating and bringing something new to the table for extra $ should cause an issue.

Also its not for one variant.... its applies to all 737 models (600-900).   You only get one SOP but that seems like a small complaint considering that most people will just pick one and move on from there,

Sounds interesting to me.

Not clear, does the 737 sop 3 not have animated first officer

I see no mention of it.

Animated FO is a separate purchase in addition to the base package.  You dont need it, the "invisible" FO will still do all the flows correctly.

I've always just stuck with SOP 1, never got the others, it does me just fine. I think that animated stuff is a bit pointless.

Yeah I get that, but it only seems available with SOP 1 and I fly states and need SOP3.

Either that or their website needs updating

Nah, it's sold separately. It'll be planned after SOP2 Animated FO. The team worked on the ATR. Currently, they're working on improved FO SOP1...

it's interesting if you don't like being alone in your cockpit 🤣
