June 26, 20241 yr To answer the question "will this airport take a 777", there's lots of useful information on Boeing's "Airplane Characteristics for Airport Planning" site: https://www.boeing.com/commercial/airports/plan-manuals See sections 3.3 and 3.4 for takeoff and landing runway length requirements.

June 26, 20241 yr Why just the major intl. hubs? Transaero used to fly with 747s, 767s and 777s into LOWS Salzburg back in the old days before the russian dictator decided to invade Crimea and the rest of Ukraine subsequently. Salzburg got a 2500m runway and they've never struggled to takeoff or land. For short flights with just a low amount of fuel, I'd land at everything starting from 2000m. Since I still want to use Skiathos, Mykonos, Innsbruck, Southampton etc. I just wait for @sherv_BBSs 757 which gives me decent long range capabilities PLUS the ability to fly into 1600m runways aswell.
