I'd suggest to carefully watch and listen again (or check if maybe you're looking at a different video). The tip consists in setting the trim to approx. 0,30 LESS (so, if the EFB gives a trim setting of 1,20, then set it manually to 1,20 - 0,30 = 0,90 using your assigned joystick button or directly into the yoke as @ATRguy mentioned is properly done in real life), than the initially calculated by the EFB to avoid the aircraft to lift the nose earlier and pitch up too much during the takeoff (something that could be easily noticed in the aircraft as it is right know, v1.0.36). Where do I go now? The waste bin? https://www.avsim.com/profile/517788-atrguy/ No one else seems to have the problem and I have no method to ask the owner of the market place where I purchased it from. Could it be the ATR model I choose to fly (there are a number of different ones available to choose from) although I would have thought that they would all share the same 'cockpit'. July 9, 20241 yr No idea why it’s doing that, it must be a control binding somewhere, I’ve never seen that happen anywhere else. Sorry that’s not much help, but check every trim setting in your controls and see if there’s something that’s screwy. Try NOT setting it with the push button, and just setting it with the trim switches on the yoke.
July 9, 20241 yr Author Thanks. I have tried setting it using the trim switches on the yoke (and I hear the woop woop as it changes) which results in the same ie the trim setting gets displayed correctly and then slowly returns to zero. I have watched and re watched the video (tips) and at around 5:13 into the video the author only talks about reducing the initial trim set but doesn't mention what he uses to reduce it however that is not the problem as at that stage it has reverted to zero anyway. I reckon I have spent over 5 hours (yes five hours) researching, trying this and that and reading all the great advice here. Seems to me that it is unsolvable unless the 'software engineers' who developed this aircraft can sort it out even by me uploading certain information about my system. Where do I go now? The waste bin? If you have the trim setting assigned to a particular axis or button in your joystick it's possible that axis/button is not working right. It has happened to me several times before (with the T.16000M from Thrustmaster). Try changing the trim setting to a different axis/button to see if that solves your issue. I don't think your problem is due to the use of a particular ATR model, since as you said, they all share the same cockpit. I decided to download and install MSFS on my old standby PC which really isn't recommended as it isn't fast enough. Anyway I installed MFS on it and the ATR. Guess what? The SAME problem occurs yet it is a different PC, a different mouse, a different keyboard and a different joystick. That sort of tells me that the ATR I have purchased and downloaded is a dud! Either that or settings I have made on my original PC and which get copied to the 'cloud' for MSFS have 'infected' the old PC as I noticed that when I run MSFS on the second old slow PC the same 'liverage' for the ATR as I chose on the original PC 'defaults' in the old slow PC as well as my last used departure airports. Any comments. Regards John Gigabyte Z390 m/b, i7 9700K cpu, 16Gb Hyper X Fury 3200 ram, RTX2060 6Gb, Gigabyte 32" monitor, MSFS 2020 store edition
July 9, 20241 yr I’d say that the trim resetting to zero isn’t a game breaker, to be honest. There’s lots of good that the ATR does offer. Go fly it. If you want any tips, real life procedures, etc…. Post away here. I’m a Captain in the Canadian Arctic on the 42/72 so I’m always willing to help out. Edited July 9, 20241 yr by ATRguy

Any comments. Yes, control assignments are saved to the cloud and copied to any new computer that you install MSFS on. This can be a boon when upgrading to a new computer (don't need to redo all the control assignments), but in your case, it may have led to a "rogue" control assignment being copied from your first PC to the second. I'd recommend going through all of the input devices in the control options and, for each, using the "search by name" box to search for "trim". Check if there are any unwanted control assignments - because this does sound like the most likely culprit.

There’s lots of good that the ATR does offer. Well I totally disagree with that as it is a feature which I don't have and it is virtually impossible to hold the nose up with the joystick and try and change settings with keyboard and mouse until the AP is engaged and the ALT button engaged I set the altitude to 5000, took off and attempted to get it to at least stay level using trim and once again whatever I set it to it returned to zero and the aircraft pitched down. I then engaged the AP then ALT and then used the 'wheel' to pitch the nose up. Nothing much happened. BTW when I try to trim using the toggle button on the yoke is it supposed to make a sound like it is warning about something? July 10, 20241 yr Author And I have no way to contact whoever created the MSFS aircraft as it was purchased via the Market Place and to make it worse there is no documentation. I only watched the first 2 so far and noted in the second one the author sets the (elevator) trim using the control on the yoke (I am assuming as I hear the warning sound as I do when I do the same) and note that the trim setting is displayed BUT REMAINS STEADY not as what happens with me as it slowly returns to zero. Oh how I wish there was a reason to allow me to fix this. Thanks for the link to Asobo manuals which I had checked sometime ago and there is NO manual listed. I must point out that when I am using the ATR I select the 'ready for taxi' mode - engines running etc as at this stage I only want to be able to learn how to set the flight plan in the MCDU and fly the aircraft. I assume that there is nothing else to set to allow the elevator trim to work correctly. Is that true? July 10, 20241 yr Unless the autopilot is on for some reason in that setup, there’s nothing that would force the trim to zero. Set it cold and dark, and then put external power on the plane. Go battery on, ground power on. You should be able to move the trim at that point and see what it does.
