MSFS weather - all options greyed out

Featured Replies

I didn't use the sim for about a week, and when I started a flight yesterday, and chose weather from the toolbar, all options were greyed out. Have anyone else experienced this?

Other strange issues (same flight):

-Active Sky didn't load (error message) - worked last time

-TDS GTNXi didn't work in the piston Duke

Very strange that issues like these suddenly appear when everything was ok last time I used the sim.

All ok here.

I use:

MSFS Live Real Worldwide Weather. Working ok from the Toolbar and I got KDTW Metar ok from the Toolbar.

It might depend on two things:

1- check if your "Data" options are still as you expect them to be in your general options.

2- check which "flight condition" you chose. Depending on which option for multiplayer (all players, group only etc...), the weather option might be greyed out to force real weather. I don't remember the exact details, but it's something around that screen where you setup your flight in the main menu. Depending what you chose, the weather options become available or greyed out.

The strange thing was that all options in the weather section of the toolbar were greyed out - time as well. Never had that happen before. I did check the data options in the main menu.

I was doing a group flight - could it be related? But the person I was flying with could use live weather.

That's weird that the other person could use it. I'm used to the greyed out weather when resuming a saved flight (i.e. on PMDG), but not on freshly started flights.

If it's a group flight, isn't only the "owner" of the group able to modify the weather and time of the flight ?

That's interesting, could explain things. Strange though that I had clear skies, pressure 29.92 and 13 degrees and not live weather.

It's strange indeed...

I mean, I often do multiplayer flights with my brother, and I usually invite him to join my group. So we end up being two persons in a group that I own.

From that moment, when we're in flight, if I change the time of the day or the weather, then these changes are reflected in his simulator as well. So if we're flying during day time, but suddenly I change the time to dawn or dusk, then his sim switches to dawn or dusk as well. Same goes for the weather, we both get the same weather based on what I chose, as a owner of the group.... If you could get clear sky while your friend had set real weather... then maybe the real weather was clear sky at that moment ?

Didn’t know that. Real weather that day was not clear skies - my friend had clouds and wind. I’ll try another group flight and see if problem persists. But it does explain greyed out options.

TDS GTNXi didn't work

For what it is worth, there are some known issues with the TDS GTN and the dev is working on a bug-swatter. Not everyone seems to be affected but I am one of the unlucky ones it seems. Typical issue is the screens are randomly unclickable (sometimes it works, sometimes it does not) on the initial screen that shows your licensed to name. It also silently crashes on sim exit as it does not release cleanly when the sim is closed. The other issues could be related to online connectivity to servers perhaps. Probably not a problem on your side, give it a while and try again before diving in to trouble shoot.

I think that’s a different issue though. It seems mine was related to group flight.

I've never done any group flights; is there a person who initiates this? it stands to reason that that person is the only one who can control weather, since all persons in the same group flight should have the same weather. Otherwise one could have be flying in a sunny morning and the other at night during a snowstorm.

Hey CP! I read the manual for that software after you messaged me about it. From memory I swear it said both users needed to set the same weather or clear skies as otherwise the ac would not sync properly. Don't recall anyone needing to be a 'master' though. Be definitely worth reading through that manual again now you've actually flown it. I think I mentioned active sky or other weather injection would be incompatible because even if using the same settings minor changes in your as config would lead to different refresh /injection times etc and cause ac to unsync.

It shouldn't matter if one of you is day and the other night I think WIND is THE deciding factor for successful syncing.

If my memory turns out to be wrong I'm sorry! Busy week back to FIA today good luck!

Hi Russel, hope you're having a blast at Farnborough, sorry I missed it.

I was not using YourControls i.e. no shared cockpit session. But just after I woke up this morning I had a few epiphanies:

  1. The person who initiates the group flight has control of time and weather
  2. My friend was using Active Sky during this session
  3. I got a critical error with ASFS (AS_FSConnectorInstall.exe not present for some reason) - hence I got clear skies, no winds, QNH 1013

The last issue is the most embarrasing i.e. TDS GTNXi display being black despite the application running in the background. I was flying the Duke, and had the avionics bus switch set to standby instead of main inverter.

Makes sense - I've not done many group flights, and with a lot of glitches happening lately (connection issues, loss of settings etc), I put it down to a random error due to a connection issue.
