August 20, 20241 yr Here is what I just researched. You may see my choices relevant to your planned upgrades. Just spec'd out a new system over the past two days and now waiting for the components. Did a good deal of research and used https://pcpartpicker.com/products/ to pick choices. Got some great guidance here and even better from the local builder I am using. My builder moved me from a Corsair cooler to the NZXT saying from experience it is better. I am paying the local shop $320 to build, install the OS, and bench test. You mention some of the components I selected. Your parts are similar to what I built last year, except I didn't go with an MSI board, although I could have, I like their stuff. That thing should be amazing in MSFS. 2 hours ago, fppilot said: $ 14.39 Stand Adjustable Mobile CPU Stand, Ventilated Computer Tower Stand Ventilated? It is only a simple cart to move the system into and out of position when needed. It need not stay in place. It does have ventilation openings. The bottom of my case I believe feeds only the PSU. Properly set up, you get a very smooth experience at the cost of some artefacts. No longer time testing experience here, so I do not know if the tool works for an e.g. 4h simming session. AutoFPS lets My biggest advice would be: try those tools right now, it might make buying new hardware even obsolete 😉 This is good advice. Try Lossless scaling and AutoFPS first.

We aren't quite there yet unless frame generation or auto fps is involved but its pretty darned close. I also see that you are looking to run the sim at 4k .. that will be your new bottleneck so you can either wait to see what NVIDIA comes up with in a few months or go with a 4080 Super/4090 if your budget allows. Thank you! I do have the expectation to get better smoothness and less stutters in airports like Heathrow, with traffic (I have been using FSLTL mainly, but considering a payware option just not sure which to get yet) and cloudy/rainy weather (I use REX Weather Force). But with regards to the monitor I think I will need to sacrifice resolution for the higher refresh rates I am considering for other competitive games like CounterStrike 2. I will post in a moment what is available here for some opinions.

Bear in mind that MSFS 2024 is only months away and might turn the table over... There are also issues with voltage damage on Intel's top end CPU's that are putting people off. Ok thank you for that! The Intel damage is something I was concerned about.

Idle is 41c to 44c Thermal limit is 90c so nowhere near it. When I fly on my current rig with heavy weather at complex airports and traffic I get CPU temperatures of between 80-90. In basic airports with clear weather and little traffic I get about 60-70. I have good thermal paste (Grizzly), liquid cooler and I keep my PC well maintained and clean (physically and software wise).
