Going to try short range airliner

I'm a fan of the FSS EJet series (170/175), even though it gets knocked for not having VNAV.

Quick and easy checklist, good EFB, decent FMC.  Lots of real world short routes to replicate.

Considering I dont even use VNAV on the 737, I should give that one a try one day

  • If you just want an airliner, and don't mind a lack of real-world routes or fictional liveries, the PMDG 737-600 at $35 is a good deal for a good airplane.

  • The ATR is cheap, works well and fits your bill. It’s not overly complicated, it has a few fun quirks, and has operators all over the world for routes.

I can't say which one is better as they both have sterling reputations. The choice for me boils down to Boeing vs Airbus, plus the fact that Fenix requires you to buy the A320 in order to also bu

Re the PMDG 737-600, I'm a fan of the Zibo mod in X Plane and thought I'd give a similar aircraft a try in FS2020 - without breaking the bank.

Well, I haven't managed to fly the PMDG 737-600!  The aircraft loads up but everything is frozen.  No buttons or switches react to the mouse.  FS2Crew displays an SDK error - I have put the [SDK] EnableDataBroadcast = 1 entry in, but I still get the SDK error.  GSX will not start because the battery needs to be on, but all my controls are locked!

Two suggestions:

1: Try hitting ESC and restart flight. They are working through some SU15-induced WASM issues, but this is extreme and I don't think is the cause

2: Try just a vanilla load with only the 736 to rule out an FSCrew issue.

The 737 is frozen before loading FS2Crew unfortunately.  I have restarted the PC several times, restarted MSFS several times, re-installed FS2Crew but no luck.

There is a wrinkle with the 737s, in that SU15 can cause an authentication error on initial load into the sim. Restarting the flight, and not the entire sim seems to fix that.

That said, I'd open a support ticket with PMDG, They are usually pretty good about getting back to folks.

Tried restarting the flight but still frozen.  Re-installed FS2Crew but still getting an SDK error.

Will open a support ticket 🙄

Just bought the PMDG 737-600 earlier today. I bought it direct from the PMDG site, rather than from the marketplace. I hope this will make no difference. £26.55 in sterling. One reason I bought the 737-600 rather than bigger versions is that church mice mock me for my poverty. Also, my PC is a bit old and is on the nexus of 'I wonder if it's fast enough?'  or not. I have a six year-old 8700K (not overclocked), 1070 with 8GB VRAM, 32GB RAM.

Go on, crowdfund me for a new PC!!!! You know you want to! 😁Wot?! You don't? Okay, carry on...

I fly the PMDG 737-600 @ 1080p resolution on my i5 7600K @ 4.5Ghz/32GB DDR4-3600 RAM/Nvidia GTX 980Ti powered PC, and the framerates are smooth as silk at pretty high detail levels (although I do not have AI planes enabled). What screen resolution are you using?

Unless this wasn't mentioned already. I have a ton of planes already but one that I have always really liked for shorter hauls is the FSS 175 and 175LR. I know people have their opinions on them and that's fine. Most of the opinions I would venture to say are mostly hearsay and little experience with the simulated planes. I love the KPDX to KRNO or KLAS flight. One of my favorites in Alaska Airlines. The PMDG 736 is another good one. I don't have that but knowing how well they model their planes and for that price is a great deal!  The ATR is also fun but some people have issues setting it up.

Also, KSBA to KLAX is nice as well.
