….and Bobs flown his eighty miles…

That certainly fits the short range criteria 😀

  • If you just want an airliner, and don't mind a lack of real-world routes or fictional liveries, the PMDG 737-600 at $35 is a good deal for a good airplane.

  • The ATR is cheap, works well and fits your bill. It’s not overly complicated, it has a few fun quirks, and has operators all over the world for routes.

I can't say which one is better as they both have sterling reputations. The choice for me boils down to Boeing vs Airbus, plus the fact that Fenix requires you to buy the A320 in order to also bu

Also, I love the Fenix and the a319, but there is just something special about the 736. It's a rocket of a ship. SAS and Westjet flew them, and I think Tunis Air flew them. I did grab a few of the private jet liveries for the 736 also.

PMDG 737-600, I have done 80 miles flight with it.

I have done even less than that. A direct flight from EGGD Bristol to EGFF Cardiff (take off on runway 27 @ EGGD, turn left to intercept the final approach to runway 30 @ EGFF, and then line up to land!!)

I've flown the 737-600 a lot, highly recommended, especially with the short field package. Handles well, great fun! I also have the BAe 146 but prefer the -600.

I do not think that I have ever selected the short field package. What exactly does this do with respect to take offs and landings?

It makes modifications to the slats, flaps, and spoilers, as well as various other tweaks. Detailed information is here:

There's also a video here (almost an hour long!):

The PMDG 737-600 is £27 in the Marketplace right now.

Is the PMDG 737-600 as complex (in the model) as the PMDG 737-800? I wonder why the difference in price.

Yes

Let's say it's a special offer from PMDG. They hope that you like it enough for purchasing all their other aircraft.

In real life, it was an unpopular aircraft. It wasn't much lighter than the 737-700 so airlines bought that instead. SAS and Westjet were the biggest operators. There are only around 20 still in use. The only North American operator is Janet, the government's super-secret airline to bring employees from LAS to a few government faciities. Air Algérie flies a handful of them now also.

As such, PMDG gave this one a budget price. They said they will do something similar with one of the 777 models.

It's a great airplane though. I put a few fictitious liveries on it to pretend it's a 734.

Kelowna Flightcraft also operates a couple of the former Westjet 600s. I almost thought of buying the 600 to simulate some of their charter routes but in the end decided to save the money -- I have the 700 and 800.

When the PMDG 777 is loading up, there is some text at the bottom of the screen that states that there is a scheduled airline flight with the 777, that is around 20 miles. Next time I see it, I will post the location of the flight.

Systems wise the 600 is identical to its bigger brothers.
With the 700 and 800 you get the freighter, the passenger liner and the business jet. You also get the option of the hud.

With the 600 you get the just the one model. However, it is a fully functioning 737 and the pricing has been a very clever move to introduce PMDG to a broader audience who wouldn’t normally consider buying a complex airliner.

I can’t think of anything else at this price point with an equivalent level of sophistication.

That is the one I was thinking about.
