September 10, 20241 yr Yesterday I got my CL. Finished my work half day erlier just to try the headset asap. The setup was very quick. Watched some vids on Youtube. I used Quest3 which ran perfectly in most cases. I did not change anything in the sim settings. The settings are mostly on HIGH. Put on the headset. Felt comfortable. Fired up the sim. I noticed a big difference between Quest3 and CL. 1) The lenses. Pancake lenses vs aspheric. There is a noticable difference. Quest3 is much pleasant for the eyes. But apparently it must take some time to adapt to CL. 2) The clarity in the cockpit is the same with both headsets. But the ground textures on the ground in CL have better resolution. 3) The performance of Quest3 is better than CL with my current setiings. The biggest problem what I have noticed in CL, was when turning head, for instance left to right, a screen on the right freezes for milisecond and I see the off screen border... I don;t know how to explain. Maybe you experience sometime when amy headset freezes, then when you trun your head, the picture stays on the same place and you see black area around the picture. So, the same effect presents all the time when I turn my head. If I trun the head slowly, there is no such effect. Also, it seems that there is a lack of focus, especially when I turn my head, no matter how fast I turn. I will try to test that more. My initial impression: the only advantage I found in CL was the ground texture resolution. I did a test flight, then tried the same with Q3. There was a noticable differens between the texture resolution. But the rest, Quest 3 beats CL. If I don't find any tweaks in CL which resolve my concerns, I will keep my Q3 and sell the CL... The funny thing I come to in reading this post brought me back to when I actually was about to send the CL back in favor of keeping the Reverb G2 for as long as I could...🤪 I just got my CL a week ago and after this weekend of finally getting the CL tuned to my machine and learning what it can do I'd never go back... You have to dial things into what works best for your machine. There's no way the Q3 is better than the CL or anything out there for that matter at this price point. 1. First off (and very important) you have to adjust your IPD (Interpapillary Distance) setting manually on the side of the headset to get the specific focus you need for your eye separation. The best way I found was to download an app on my phone and get the number. Mine was about 64.1. If you don't do this the visual will not look the best and you'll give yourself heavy eye strain and other off effects like vertigo after using the headset. 2. You have to make sure your wearing the headset correctly. The back padding of the headset should touch and/or be tightened where you can feel the padding around the lower back of your head. This takes the load off the front of your face. If you don't wear the headset correctly that can be a problem in itself with what you see when you use the headset. 3. I'll agree with you somewhat here as I had to dial back my headset settings to what my machine can handle. This is what we used to say leaves room for growth that's not possible with the Q3. I have to run the CL at 50htz not the recommended 90htz setting that 'VR Flightsim Guy' suggested in his setup video (I posted this in my other thread). I also have to use 'Smart Smoothing' which in essence gives me the clarity a bit above the Reverb G2 but the view outside is clear as a bell by comparison. This is actually was what I wanted, the best of both inside and out the cockpit. Make no mistake outside of the small sweet spot with the reverb G2 looked good in the cockpit.🧐 Hardware will have to catch up to give us more than that but at that time you can dial up the CL to accommodate this future hardware growth. Understand this, No VR headset at this time is going to look just as good as the 2D monitor. If that's what your expecting we're a year or two out from that. Maybe an i9 with a Nvidia 4090 can get you close but I wouldn't know...😶 3. Again you'll have to give the CL a little time figuring out what works best for your setup. You'll love it after that. What I found so far is heavy dense could cover can cause the headset to loose tracking switching me out the cockpit and then back in. You have to at times depending on how light hits your room throughout the day recalibrate your room settings at that will cause the same problem (wreaks havoc on your eyes). Some might like PimaxXR or SteamVR runtimes, I found they both end up pretty much the same once you have setting dialed in. The PimaxXR runtime will be the way to go as Pimax is currently updating and refining that option. I believe the aforementioned dense cloud/lose of head tracking issue I mentioned above will be sorted with a few more updates from Pimax. For me there's no way the Q3 beats the CL. Not having to deal with batteries/disconnecting WIFI alone makes for a better experience. I had a terrible time with WIFI using the Q3. VR is still not mainstream meaning it's not plug and play with each headset. There's idiosyncrasies with all of them you have to get used to. CL just gives you the best bang for your effort buck. Heck again, I was going to go back to my Reverb G2 when I first got the CL a week ago because that's what I knew and this new thing was frustrating. Give it some time to get this headset tuned to your PC. I bet in the end you'll see this thing runs circles around the Q3. It's not an instant realization though...🥴😏🍺 Edited September 11, 20241 yr by Dillon FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
September 11, 20241 yr Quote I did not change anything in the sim settings. The settings are mostly on HIGH. Quest 3 has lower resolution compared to CL, so the performance might be better. Change all of your settings to Medium, see if that helps. And you are also going to want to tinker with OpenXR-toolkit and the Pimax software. Quote The biggest problem what I have noticed in CL, was when turning head, for instance left to right, a screen on the right freezes for milisecond and I see the off screen border... Thanks for extensive feedback! That were my first impressions. If you jump to CL straight from Quest3, then the lenses difference is obvious. Pancake lenses beat aspheric lenses for sure. But I knew, that it would take some time to get used to it. Now everything looks a bit different way. I got used to the lenses. Made some adjustments. Everything looks good. The resolution is great indeed. The performance is ok. So, as more I use the headset as much I start liking it 🙂 But as for the Quest3, that headset is really good also. The only disadvantage I see is the low texture resolution outside the cockpit (in the cockpit everything ok). But the rest is good. Yesterday, while using CL I got a feeling that I like the headset more than Quest3. And for those who are budget limited, upgrade to Quest3 is worth. But using it with Virtual Desktop. If the head movement is slow, no problems at all. So, my initial post were just first emotions. But gradually everything moves opposite way. Im staring liking CL 🙂 Edited September 12, 20241 yr by zorro747 Intel i9-13900K, GIGABYTE GAMING Z790, GeForce RTX4090, 32GB

September 12, 20241 yr Interesting conversation. I just ordered my CL, but I currently have quite an old PC (see signature). I'm curious if it can at least handle the CL at medium settings. We'll see. I'm planning to build a new PC at the end of the year anyways. Edited September 12, 20241 yr by carlito777 [email protected] ∣ Asus ROG Strix B650E-E ∣ 64Gb@6000MT ∣ NVidia 5090 FE

I am not a technical guy, cannot advise anything on PC, but I am sure that you will be able to run CL on lower settings. You will enjoy a while but it will motivate you to expedite your PC upgrade to enjoy fully VR experience 🙂 I have invested a lot to my PC and gear, but I don;t regret. Even though I have many other different needs in my life, but positive emotions which I get from the sim and especially VR, wotrh the spent money for sure. Life is stressful, difficult and short. So, let's enjoy it no matter how much it costs 🙂 Intel i9-13900K, GIGABYTE GAMING Z790, GeForce RTX4090, 32GB

Your FS VR settings are too high.🤪 With the Reverb G2 and Q3 settings have to be turned up to compensate for the grainy look of those lenses. CL looks great with lower settings there by boosting performance of the sim in general. Which resolution do you have in settings with the Crystal Light? before and after you own CL?. I have with the G2 around 3400x3400 or so, more it can makes a bit more clear and also much and more low performance then. I remember people saying with 4000x4000 and more with G2s, and the CL are "only" around 2880x2880, it has sense what you write about lower settings in CL and better clarity even in the middle sweet-spot of G2s.

I wouldn't say that, mine works perfectly with fluid performance.😊 Don't go lower than a 4070 TI Super OC. I EDIT: I guess you can get by with a 4060 TI 64gb but clouds would have to be set to medium or high.🤔 Actually the CL ran smooth on my old 4060 TI but the sim is so much more stable and smooth with a 4070 TI and up.
