I only have it because once upon a time I got curious and purchased TSW 2020 and some routes on steam. Getting version 5 for free, including access to my old routes was interesting enough to make me download it.

It's my understanding, I could be wrong, that TSW5 works in VR without using the conversion application that everyone uses on TSW 3 and TSW4.

EDIT: I am downloading TSW5 free version now. It is 115 GB in size.

The free version to download is the Train Sim World® 5: Free Starter Pack

For TSW5 to be free, you must have a previous purchase of any version TSW. All the DLC that you have purchased in the past will jump over to the TSW5, follow the tutorial video in top message posted by the white cat. 🙂

 

guess those Humble Bundle TWS 3 & 4 packs won't be obsoleted by the new version then ! 🙂

I picked up TSW5 this week. It's my first train sim since the train simulator classic series. It's certainly nice to get behind the controls of a train again and makes a very welcome change to flight simming. I'm hoping there will be some South West UK DLC coming, in particular the Avocet Line between Exeter and Exmouth which I've traveled many times.

I had not heard that. You might be thinking of this?

 

By the way 50 to 70 % off lots of TSW DLC.

But only through Sept. 16 - Sept 23 (tomorrow).

When you get to the Store, type TSW into the search bar. Typing things like trainsim will not work.

Anything you buy that's at the level TSW3, TSW4, will work in the free TSW5. I'm not sure about TSW2.

Yeah, it was my mistake. I was fooled by this title from Dovetail "Train Sim World 5/VR". It means TSW 5 and TSW VR, but they are not the same.

Anyway here is the video from Dovetail itself. 4 hours, but the first 3 hours are blank (waiting for the live cast which starts at 3:00). It pretty much explains everything.

 

 

I wish we had this in MSFS!

At 3:18 they mention Conductor Mode. (not the driver but a conductor checking tickets). You can eject passengers who aren't supposed to be on board !

VR (for meta Quest 2 and meta Quest 3)

The graphics look quite muddy, though. Constraints of trying to run it on the headset. Probably better to stream one of the main versions from your desktop.
