VDGS and Nool

Featured Replies

Hi,

It is still confused how to use VDGS and/or Nool.

When I arrive to the gate I expect to see the distance changing until I see a STOP on the guidance monitor. I can never see this. What's wrong?

It can be confusing. One thing you need to do every time you instal a new airport that has VGDS is to let the Nool VGDS run a scan of your community folder for compatible airports with VDGS systems. You can find the scan tool inside the VGDS folder. Also keep an eye out for Nool VGDS updates, there seems to be an update every month or so.

How do I do this scan?

I am now at LPPR airport, gate 34, and the monitor of the guidance is black... No arrows, no STOP word, no nothing...

there is a scan file in the folder that it installed in the community.  It's a .bat file I believe from memory.  The instructions are also in that folder and explains it.

I sympathise. I too cannot get Nool to work. I have scanned, checked the files after consulting the trouble shooting guide. Within MSFS itself Nool is showing in the Content Manager with the word 'Waiting'. I have no idea what that means.

When I downloaded the latest installation file for Nool, Windows tried to prevent me as it identified the file as 'suspicious'.

I either saw it working well, don't know what happens with this app..??

cheers 😉

I don't think the developer implemented it at LPPR

I never see VDGS working in any airport. I dont know if I need to make something before it works.

VDGS is a major pain.  The only one that somehow works is GSX and even that one requires all kinds of things to be done in order to activate.  I have yet to see any airport where you approach a gate and the VDGS simply works.  Hopefully this is something that a developer will tackle once and for all for MSFS2024 - I'm willing to pay good $$$ for a VDGS addon that works seamlessly with all airports that have VDGS.

Sincerely,

Dennis D. Müllert

I have not had any problems with it. I just used it yesterday at FB KSFO gate A15. It worked great.

@Andy675 You can ignore the warning. That's just Microsoft telling you that they don't know what it is. Just click "more info" in the message telling you that it is an "unrecognized app" and then click "run anyway" on the next screen.

The only real requirement is to make sure that the exe.xml file (in your C:\Users\<<YOURUSERID>>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache folder) has the section for the Nool add-on in it pointing to the proper location

 <Launch.Addon>
    <Name>noolaero-module-vdgs</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <Path>E:\MSFS\My Community\Airports\flightbeam-ksfo\noolaero-module-vdgs\Binaries\vdgs-util.exe</Path>
  </Launch.Addon>

Then, make sure that you do NOT have a custom GSX config for the airport that specifies using GSX VGDS systems for the gates where a Nool VGDS should be active.

I did this. And I follow the troubleshooting.

Nool does not work at the arrival. It says "Airport, Gate X" in the beginning, but no yellow arrows to conduct me at the arrival.

I have the GSX config that comes with the scenery... Is this compatible with Nool Aero?

There are TWO GSX profiles for KSFO. There is one if you want to use the Nool VGDSs and a different one if you want to use the GSX VGDSs. Which one do you have installed?

Look in your C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\virtuali\GSX\MSFS folder.

To make Nool VGDSs work, you need 2 files in there:

  • KSFO-KT-FB-Noolaero.ini
  • KSFO-KT-FB.py
