MSFS2024 deletion of default repaints

Featured Replies

Hello to you all,

Can anyone tell me if in the new sim, is it possible to delete all the default cities and aircraft repaints. In 2020 you can, in fact, delete all of these and it takes a long time.

Similarly, it takes a long time to restart the sim also, because it reloads all that you have just deleted as a mandatory update. In other words, it is an excellent example of an exercise in futility.

I know that quite a few people have had a whinge about this (myself included) and I really do wonder if this is being addressed in the 2024 version.

The reason for this query is that I am now up to 1.89 TB in my 2TB HDD, given mostly Flightsim.to addons and repaints. I also only fly in Australia so all the world city updates are just HDD fillers which will never be used.

Any info would be appreciated

Regards

Tony

Since the new version is downloading in real time only what you need, storage for cities etc. will not be a factor. The alpha install was 9GB, and there was no limitation on where you could fly. The release is supposed to be in the 30GB if I recall.

How do you delete all default paints as I have tried and some you cannot access the CFG file, I can on payware aircraft. In fact that's one of the reasons i don't buy from the marketplace

Mate this is very simple. You do it through the content manager where you can install or uninstall.  You can delete all the default liveries and the bush flights etc but it all comes back in again.  It is, as I said, futile because the next time you load MSFS it will go into mandatory update and put them all back in again. You can though, delete world updates and they will not come back until you reinstall them,

I guess the best way to describe this is, if you do a reinstall of MSFS and rename your Community folder prior to this, basically everything that is installed and up to date in the content manager is default and will reload ie do a mandatory update, if you delete them. The items that you can install in that folder are the optional ones that if you do delete will not come back or update mandatorily.

That is what I have worked out and it may not be totally correct so please correct me in that case.

I hope that helps to clear it all up.

Thank you for that Mate. Does the new version even have a content manager or is it highly modified???

I've deleted a few airports and liveries through the content manager and they have never spontaneously returned.
Deleting them outside of MSFS is a bad idea because then content manager does not know you don't want those files, so it will try and restore them when there are updates.

Regarding your question about MSFS2024 even having a content manager, I think it does, since although most of the data is streamed, you can download aircraft and airports if you so wish to do.

?

Not on my system. In my content manager I'm showing around 800 items not installed.

Not sure what you're doing but these things remain uninstalled even after the mandatory updates.

Something is off in your MSFS2020 install.
Deleted items through the content manager don't get reinstalled upon next startup of the sim for most people.

Suggest that you make copies of the following, move to another location for safekeeping, and try to let the sim build from scratch:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\SceneryIndexes   - all files.

C:\Users\Niko\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages   - all sub-folders.

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator   - Content.xml; exe.xml; Usercfg.opt.

AMD Ryzen 5800X3D; MSI RTX 3080 Ti ; 32GB Corsair 3200 MHz; ASUS VG35VQ 35" (3440 x 1440)
Fulcrum One yoke; Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack Airbus edition; MFG Crosswind rudder pedals; miniCockpit FCU; CPFlight MCP 737; Logitech FIP x3; TrackIR

MSFS; Fenix A320; A2A PA-24; HPG H145; PMDG 737-600; AIG; RealTraffic; PSXTraffic; FSiPanel; REX AccuSeason Adv; FSDT GSX Pro; FS2Crew RAAS Pro; FS-ATC Chatter

Hello again

I am going to do some more research regarding this.  I have, however,  tried this exercise three times now (in the past) and each time the next start-up will pause at the mandatory update and then reloads all that I have just deleted. In fact, I have made several posts referring to this.

Again, these deletions are done through the content manager and additionally, I have always installed MSFS onto a dedicated hard drive (Drive D)

It is not a huge problem for me other than the huge amount of data storage it takes up.

Thank you for all your responses.
