PSXT Live Traffic Injection logic

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, first off, I want to say how much I love PSXT—it’s fantastic for enhancing realism in my flights. I have a question regarding the logic behind Live traffic injection.

I enjoy flying in and out of major hubs, like Heathrow or Frankfurt. Until a few months ago, even with my Live traffic limit set to 10 (necessary for good fps), I could see planes landing, taking off, and moving around on the ground when I was parked at Terminal 5 with the 27 runways in use. However, now, in the exact same situation, I no longer see approaching or departing traffic as I used to.

It seems as if the 10 Live slots are filled only by aircraft closest to my position, and often planes appear at the very last second, reducing the sense of immersion. Ideally, I’d love to consistently have at least two planes approaching in sequence and not miss departing aircraft, while perhaps limiting ground traffic to achieve a better balance.

I’d be interested to know if there are any future development plans to enhance Live traffic injection, particularly to optimize the balance between approaching/departing aircraft and ground traffic. Thanks for any advice and for your patience!

Will help tremendously to use more traffic with less fps hit. Highly recommended.

Thanks, I will give a look!

Hi,

The max live algorithm has changed a bit indeed. Formerly I splitted the max live value into a percentage for airborne and a percentage for taxiing traffic. That was rather complex and gave lots of sudden changes, that's why I now take the nearest max live aircrfaft, whethe on the ground or airborne.

At EGLL with wanting 10 live aircraft only you may indeed see taxiing aircraft only. The value of 10 is too low for such a busy airport, change it to 20  (with range 8 nm) and it will stil, work with a good fps I'd say.

EDIT: I may add a vertical range, say from +/- 3000 ft of the user aircraft to +/- 40.000 ft, although I don't think it will suppress a lot of airborne aircraft around EGLL within a 8 nm radius.

Thanks, Nico, for your ongoing support. I was surprised to notice only a minimal decrease in performance when comparing 10 aircraft (as I was used to) with the max live traffic at EGLL. Perhaps adjusting the vertical range could provide further improvement. I can now confirm that, in my case, the primary FPS drop seems to stem more from the injection process itself than from the actual number of airplanes.

That is a known problem at KBOS.

You are closer to the (harbour) airport MA17 then to KBOS.  Slew your aircraft to a position at KBOS further away from MA17 and then start PSXT again.

Problem  solved in version 9.2.0

It's an old topic, but the problem might have returned (in version 14.5.0 it selects MA17 when parked at gate A21). Slewing solved it though.

It's also happened to me at WSSS recently

Old version of PSXT had "exception radius" parameter to deal with problems such as above, I don't know whether it's still here.

And as I recall, an older version also had a preference for larger airports within some radius. Maybe the same setting, but I also don't know if anything like it is still there.
