With the previous generation, the 7800X3D was often the better choice for gaming. This generation may be different if both cores have 3D cache. But, according to the specifications the 9800X3D will have a higher Base clock than the 9950X3D. We will have to wait for reviews to see whether more cores at lower clock is better than less cores at higher clock. November 14, 20241 yr Based on the new specs for MSFS 2024 finally built a new PC; it had been about 4 years since my last upgrade. First time AMD user. Bought the 7800x3d not realizing the 9800x3d was right around the corner. Swapped out the 7800x3d for the 9800x3d and MSFS 2020 is amazing. Been doing lots of flights with the Fenix A320 and MSFS has never looked better. Going from a 2080ti to a 4080 super probably made the biggest difference, but I couldn't be happier with the system I have now. Unfortunately, I could not take the 7800x3d back to Microcenter (15 day return) so I guess I'll have to put that on Ebay! November 14, 20241 yr Same boat as you! Except I was able to return my 7800x3d within the 15 day period to microcenter. I’m had a 8700k and 2080 prior. The 9800x3d and 4080 super fantastic so far!
November 15, 20241 yr Author Well, received mine Tuesday but was waiting for my new case and was busy trying to get my old parts sold off. Finally got it all up and running last night, everything smooth so far. I wanted to get into overclocking and dialling in everything but Sea Power released, Stalker 2 and MSFS next week, think I'll hold off on that for now. Also saw this making its rounds on various social media; https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/two-ryzen-7-9800x3d-cpus-burned-out-on-x870-motherboards-vendor-investigates-the-ryzen-burnout-issues Then I saw buildzoid's video and realized this was most likely user error, looks like they straight up installed it wrong [MSI MPG X870E Carbon | 9800X3D (PBO +200Mhz / -20 Offset) | Corsair 64GB DDR5 (Custom Timings) | RTX 4090 Founders Edition (Undervolted) | WD SNX 850X 4TB + 4TB | Antec Flux Pro]

November 15, 20241 yr All work nice run PBO + ECLK curve -15 it hold 5533mhz that with less voltage then STD. My simple PC no fansy things https://imgur.com/a/y0SWtTT Edited November 15, 20241 yr by westman http://
November 16, 20241 yr Author That's a nice machine, west. I'm just going the safe, lazy route because there's not a lot to really do with these chips, which is kinda nice. Also did the PBO +200MHz, 1x Scalar, Curve to -20 (Tried -30 and -25 but it froze, not really in the mood for doing per-core testing) and voltages even on 'Auto' seems so low, not even worth wasting hours finding lower numbers manually. During a Prime95 run, it peaks briefly at 1.19v, which is weeeell within safe limits of the CPU. People are talking about 1.3 - 1.35v being fine for daily operations. Think I'll just clamp it down there and call it a day Now I'm officially ready for MSFS 2024 Edited November 16, 20241 yr by Sethos [MSI MPG X870E Carbon | 9800X3D (PBO +200Mhz / -20 Offset) | Corsair 64GB DDR5 (Custom Timings) | RTX 4090 Founders Edition (Undervolted) | WD SNX 850X 4TB + 4TB | Antec Flux Pro]
