Lately, just as a test, I have been taking off from and landing on wrong runways in both BATC and SI to see what happens. And actually ...nothing. For instance, I will land on the wrong runway, ATC doesn't say anything and just tells me to contact ground as if all was normal? Is that the way these programs work, or are there difficulty settings I don't have set properly? Beyond ATC was scolding me for not being in the right place. It one time told me "callsign you are no where near runway 21 why are you asking for take off clearance." If you read back incorrectly they will also scold you. It will also scold you If you don't ask for pushback but do it anyway. I'm not sure what you are flying, but BeyondATC always gives me a runway to land on and will give me specific vacate instructions. "American 276 vacate left at Alpha 5." My guess is they did not program it for landing because in Aviation you generally want to follow ATCs instruction. It knows your position and altitude because it knows when to hand you off to tower or other frequencies. Now if it told you clear to land runway 21, and you said cleared to land runway 03 or anything other than runway 21 it would say. "Negative! Cleared to Land runway 21". It's not sentient. SayIntentions really just parrots back what you say, it won't even challenge you on anything. There are no difficulty settings in either one. Now my question is did it set you up correct, hand you over to tower. Tower gave you a runway, you said cleared to land the runway it gave you and then went to another runway. I just tried that and it asked my if I was missed. My guess is you didn't give it enough time or get close enough to a trigger for action point from when you said cleared to land. Like if you were at SFO and were cleared to land 28L but landed on 28R. Try landing with out telling it you were cleared to land. It should admonish you. It is possible they got rid of this because BATC was forcing the wrong runway at one point. So maybe they decided to leave it open ended on purpose since people complained about it. For instance about 2 downloads ago. Your Simbrief flight plan would say 25R KPHX was your departure runway because that's what real world ATIS said., but because the wind was 060 at 1kt. It was forcing you to take off on 08. But that's fixed now. It will now sync to the Simbrief flight plan. Yesterday though, coming into PHX from LAS I was all setup for 08 and it told me expect BRUSR1 ILS 26. hmmmm wierd. especially considering the real world traffic was from the west and the wind was blowing 074 at 9kts. It's kind of a black box and its hard to get everything to work right. VATSIM... if you can find a controller is the only real ATC experience. Edited November 11, 20241 yr by aniiran

Okay but what would they say, considering it's probably not realistic to go to the wrong runway in 99.999% of real-world departures? I have heard them say equally unprofessional things. Instead of saying "what are your intentions" or "state intentions, please" they will say "Cessna 43A where are you going?" "Piper 65 X-ray Sir, what are you doing?" " I asked you to turn heading 350, do it now please."

If you were taxiing to the wrong runway, probably something like "N12345, hold position, you were not cleared to enter taxiway X", followed by a new taxi clearance and maybe the dreaded "possible pilot deviation". Similar if you were deviating from your clearance in the air. The original "you're nowhere near a runway" wasn't even about deviating from a clearance though but merely about calling the tower for departure early. In this case, I'd expect simply "roger" or possibly "roger, report holding short runway NN" if tower wanted a reminder.

November 11, 20241 yr I absolutely hate the scolding with BATC because it's 100% scripted. You get the EXACT same line thrown at you if you repeat the error or whatever you were doing wrong. To me that's a total immersion killer. In the past BATC actually told you you were having certain problems because of the scenery you had installed: another total immersion killer. Afaik they removed that one luckily. I do my best to prevent mistakes and errors only to avoid those immersion killing oneliners... Other than that I like BATC. 😉 Even though everything BATC says is totally scripted. Edited November 11, 20241 yr by mistolip
