2024: Exceeded RAM and VRAM

Featured Replies

Looks like 64GB might be a good idea for people like me who really want to push things!

A quick recap:  I'm running a 12700K with 32GB 5600mhz ddr5 ram, and a RTX4080.  I run at 1440p resolution.

I've got a heavy load on the system here.  It's FlightBeam's KMSP, FSW's Lear 35 with third party paint (which aren't working super well yet - we think it's contributing to vram saturation). heavy overcast layer (it looks good though!), and default  AI traffic.  My settings are Ultra with TLOD to 400 and OLOD to 200.

My cpu and gpu temps are still totally fine but the ram is saturated on the cpu and gpu haha.  I've never seen 2020 use much more than 20GB RAM.  I have seen my VRAM get eaten up in 2020 in DX12 though.  Same here in 2024.

You don't need to run at Ultra for MSFS2024. High or medium look just as good and will cost you much less. This is one of the joys of 2024 for me, how great it looks and runs at much lower settings than 2020.

What is the best way to monitor these parameters?  The Task Manager?

taskmanager:NO

why not refer to the information that you can see in the top right window as in Ryans screenshot. turn Developer mode to ON in MSFS, under GENERAL/ADVANCED OPTIONS. it doesn't get more detailed than that.

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

unfortunately I think you are running into this one:

So no, it's not a case of just lower your settings, it's a core simulation bug...   On the bright side, once they resolve this core simulator issue hopefully not everyone will see  ridiculous amounts of VRAM consumption and at the same time it will address the console usability issues.  The worst part is not knowing exactly what causes it...

9. A widespread VRAM ‘leak’ in MSFS 2024 can severely affect a user’s FPS (this is a specific bug with the core simulator that is causing excessive VRAM consumption, resulting in situations with FPS in the single digits). This can affect any aircraft in the simulator and although PC builds with a higher RAM/VRAM can help mitigate this, the issue can also affect users even with the top-of-the-line equipment.

Have a Wonderful Day
