December 14, 20241 yr Author Just to add to the confusion. A simple flight from Sydney to Christchurch with AIG and traffic in the sim activated, crashed to a complete stop after an hour today. I think I will try Ray's 5.3 suggestion. I definitely can't go on like this. Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. December 14, 20241 yr Moderator @IanHarrison, I use AiCompanion on a laptop that shows me all Ai in the sim be they BGL or AIGFP. I thought that might help identify the Sydney to Canberra freeze but sadly it didn’t. My theory is that as soon as a “bad” Ai enters your 60nm bubble it causes the sim to freeze. Never proven of course. I’m sure you’ll be fine with 5.3. I’ve never had a freeze since and it’s been a whole year. Ray (Cheshire, England). December 14, 20241 yr Author One last thing to try. On an oldish post on the AIG forum, they recommended not starting Traffic Controller with P3D but starting it manually after P3D has started. They said it will then run independently and should not affect the running of P3D. Not quite sure how that would work but I'll give it a shot before removing 5.4. If I look at your rig in the signature, you use a GTX1080 limited to 8 GB VRAM. How is your VRAM when the sim crashes? December 14, 20241 yr Author Not the problem. As it was Sydney, which is very heavy on Vram, I used my lowest setting. (I have about 5 preset configurations). Vram was 4.7 of 7.6 on the ground at Sydney and remained about 3.5 -4.0 in flight. Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. December 14, 20241 yr All of my AI traffic is manually installed BGLs and planes. I've never had a problem in P3Dv5.4 or P3Dv6.1. I'm wondering if the AIG traffic controller is the problem. I got rid of it, cause the controller itself always hung and traffic was gone. So now I try for some weeks 100% bgl traffic. Before i had 100% controller traffic from AIG and bgl traffic my own files. As said before, I have almost all AIG traffic the recent years and it was always fine. But from these traffic files I got from everywhere and reworked myself, there was sometimes a file not checked which made some problems. So rather spend your time for search for other traffic or freeware scenery you may have in this area. December 15, 20241 yr Moderator How many of you run the BGL Report in AiCompanion? I found some airlines had various problems which this program identified. Depending on the problem I could fix it. I also check the Global option in the Stats feature. In a perfect setup all the flights would be either Domestic or International. If you have unknowns that means you have airports for your airlines that don’t exist in the sim. All discussed here including my files to add those missing airports. https://www.alpha-india.net/forums/index.php?topic=42480.0 Now it may just be a huge coincidence but since cleaning up my Ai data I’ve not had a single terrain.dll crash. December 16, 20241 yr Author Latest from my side. Yesterday I flew Sydney to Christchurch with the same settings as before. Result: Sim. crashed on the approach to Christchurch. (Preceded by a funny buzzing noise). I decided to take a different tack. I removed all OC settings, including memory and then ran all the Windows checks available and let them finish and do what they had to. This morning, I tried that flight again, with the same sim settings, including AIG. Result: Success. I do not have a crystal ball, so do not know what will happen in future but this seems a good start. Maybe my system is like me and getting old and needs to take things easier! Who knows. Maybe I don't need overclocks to have good flights? Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. But was your departure time the same? If it was different then the problematic BGL won’t be active hence no problem. Try again with the same departure time as your failed flight. If it is a bad Ai timing is everything. On some of my long freezes it recovered up to a minute later. Whilst my aircraft might be frozen I think Ai kept moving. So when he left my 60nm bubble my sim unfroze and continued okay. I never had two freezes in a single flight. Ray (Cheshire, England). December 17, 20241 yr Author I flew the exact same route on the same day, departing at the same time as the one that dropped P3d. after an hour. This time it was a perfect flight, no problems and no "funnies". So, I will keep my fingers crossed and continue with these reduced settings and see what happens.
