How to Climb in Cessna Caravan

Featured Replies

So in MSFS2024, I saved 2.5 million and bought the Cessna Caravan.  My first mission is to climb to FL290.  This plane only seems to climb at a rate of 300 fpm before losing speed.  I am climbing with flaps retracted full power and barely can maintain 100 kts.  What am I doing wrong.

Did you adjust the Mixture for full power? Once peaked, you will need to check the Mixture as you climb higher.

You don't mean that for a turboprop do you?

208 is a non pressurized aircraft. Would be very rare to fly above 10 to 14K ft! Most below 10K!

Well, considering the ceiling of the Cessna 208 is 25,000 feet, you probably aren't doing anything wrong.  It's not really designed for high altitude flight. An aircraft's service ceiling is usually defined as the point where you can't climb more than 100 fpm.

While the 208 isn't pressurized, it does have supplemental oxygen for passengers and pilot.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

One thing to check would be if you've inadvertently got an axis assigned to mixture - that could be interfering with the turboprop engine model.

At which altitude are you getting 300 fpm? Sea level (that would be unusual) or higher up?

If you could post a panel screenshot with the PFD and MFD, that would help.

This simulator does it incorrectly - it gives an unrealistic flight level. You can adjust it in the planner before the mission, but this doesn't always help, especially if the route goes through mountainous terrain, for example

The blue mixture is pushed all the way forward.  I tried changing the mixture, but it doesn't seem to help.  I was never able to get to FL290 so I asked ATC for FL210  But since I never got to FL290 I was not able to hit ALT N to ski the cruise phase.   Where is the planner located?  I'd love to experiment with changing that.  in the missions, the dispatcher tells me you have all the important info in your packet.  Where is that info?  I'd love to edit my climb to 15,000 say.  I'm now doing a mission flight in the Cessna Caravan and they want me at 44,000 ft??  IfI don't reach that ATC will keep nagging me to expedite climb to FL440
