Is it possible to browse anywhere in the fsx dir to view which airports have an afcad assigned to them and those that do not? Thanks.

KeithI am not sure what you mean by a AFCAD airport. AFCAD is a utility designed by Lee Swordy that enhances either a FS2002 or FS2004 Stock airport. The AFCAD Utility has the ability to change a (FS2002/FS9) stock airports Aircraft ground behavior. Many airports in FSX are enhanced with other current utilities like ADE, FSXP, AFX and some are hand written XML enhancements. Most designers of any enhanced airport will place them into the ...FSXAddon Sceneryscenery folder but that is not mandadory as long as the enhanced airport loads at or after (priority) the FSXSceneryGlobalscenery folder. You would know if you have any enhanced airports designed with a Utility because you had to download them from somewhere. If you have not downloaded any enhanced airports then you don't have any type airport that has modified the stock airport. Many will tell you to use a Utility that is suppose to find duplicates (3 or more airports with the same ICAO Code). These type utilities give incorrect information and appear to tell us more then one airport exist. Many enhanced airports MUST HAVE multiple Airport Header ICAO Codes which has nothing to do with duplications. Utilities that tell you there are duplicate airports are misleading and further research is needed before someone decides to remove what appears to be a duplicate (3 or more airports which one must be the FS stock Airport). We cannot delete a stock FS airport with any Utility but only add to it or change the aircraft behavior once on the ground. Some of the newer FSX utilities like ADE that changes the Airport Facility data can now also add or delete many types of Scenery at the Stock Airport and make changes to the unseen scenery that is within 108NM's of the airport ARP Lat/Lon.

Thanks for the heads up Jim. What criteria must be met in order that an ai aircraft will use a specific airfield? I edit lots of ai flightplans but they will only work if I specify certain airfields for dep and arr. Most airfileds are not populated by ai for some reason. How can I make ai aircraft use airfields of my choice? Thanks again.

Keith,There is no way so simply browse the airports since they are encoded into bgl files. BUT since ai must have appropriate parking to start out at an airport you can open the go-to-airport menu, select the airport by code designation, then use the dropdown list to see available starting locations. If it lists parking spots then AI may be able to use the airport. If it only lists runways, then you will know that there is no defined parking and there will not be any way for AI to start there. OR you might find it easier to use an airport editing utility itself to do the "browsing" of airports since you can immediatly open an airport of choice and see the parking detailsIf you are not familiar with editing airports, I would recommend reading the instructions that come with one of the airport editing utilities - just to get a feel for what all is involved. Then take time to read Reggie's previous answers to scores of AI/parking questions that have already been asked and answered and you will have enough information to make an airport AI-friendly.The aircraft cfg file (aircraft wingspan) determines how large a parking spot must be before an aircraft can be parked there. Smaller planes can use larger spots if available but not the reverse. If an airport does not have adequate parking for what you want in AI, you will have to find an edited airport to download or learn to do it yourself - and that's a lot more fun. Loyd

Download ade_120.zip from the Avsim library. This will allow you to browse the stock airports by country and determine whether there is AI parking.airportsba9.jpgGeorge

An airport in Flight Simulator only needs parking spots properly setup for AI traffic to use the airport.(Of course flightplans to tell specific aircraft to use the airport have to be done separately.) There is no "list" of default FSX airports with parking other than that collected by the FSX Deluxe version TrafficToolBox SDK Dump Airports list. That will list all airports, runways and parking spots in FSX - including airports without parking. If you have the SDK installed - look at the file fs10.Airports.dat in hte folder ??:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator X SDKSDKEnvironment KitTraffic Toolbox SDK

Thanks for the tips guys, very useful actually. I shall have to install the SDK. I like the quick tip of the drop down list of allocated parking in the goto airport menu. Works a treat.
