Did anyone here manage to get their hands on a 5090?

I’m glad I wasn’t able to secure a 5090, reports of high failure rates considering such a small sample set provide to the entire US.

I don't think there are many. And the ones that have seem to be a driver issue.

I think they must be just selling all of them to AI data centres. Iv'e been trying to get a RTX 5090 FE from best buy for a bout a month now using NowInStock.com browser alerts. Tumble weed! I think Nvidia has destroyed there rep with gamers. Lets hope AMD can deliver something that can compete with the 5090. If they do I'll buy it.

AMD 9070XT (and rumored XTX) will perform on par with 5080 … depending on if the 5080 has all its advertised ROPS or not.  Also, the AMD 9070XT is $700 not $1000+ (or $2300 scalper price).

The missing ROPS issue applies to entire nVidia 50 series line.

The melting cables issue and pushing 23A thru a single wire:

And the list goes on and on …

1.  Missing ROPS

2.  Burnt cables

3.  PCIe 5 issues

4.  Restricting supply on purpose (latest news from nVidia partner in Asia)

5.  18% “actual” performance gain for $2000 MSRP or more realistically $6000-$10,000 scalper

AMD Limited supply no longer interested in competing in high end GPU market.

Nvidia covering missing ROPs GPUs with RMA.

I am curious as to what percentage of gamers and simmers would buy a 5090 card. Surely it couldn't be more than, say 5%?Maybe 10% at best? Here in Australia they have "placemarked" them at $6,999 AUD (obvsiously all sold out). That doesn't necessarily mean that will be the sale price but it is there obviously to temper expectations and it would not surprise me if they are over $5,000 AUD.

My Voodoo 5500 (for practical purposes the fastest card we could get here in Australia in late 1999) cost me $600 AUD. I never bought a high end GPU again until I got my RTX4080 Super last year at around $1,900 AUD. And I thought that was the sanity limit for a video card but they just keep getting more and more expensive.

Like all my computer hardware over the last 20 years, I only replace it when it actually irreparably breaks so I won't be in the market for new hardware for a very long time. But I shudder to think what a high end GPU will cost in another 10 years!

Only those that can tell the difference between 75 fps and 120+ FPS ... I guess those few are "lucky" 😉 ... haha

You can find them on eBay, but I'm not willing to pay $6000+ to someone I don't know and who says "no returns" ... good luck with that.  I gave up on the nVidia 50 series, far too many serious issues.

I did however get an AMD XFX 9070 XT OC Magnetic Air card today for MSRP from Best Buy + 20% US Tariff so $849 delivered.

I agree. But for VR, especially with a Crystal Light I kinda think the 5090 is essential. I'm on a 3090 right now and I've tuned my system to 45fps with TAA and its smooth to my eye but I've had to compromise on resolution to get there. Medium in the Pimax Play and scaling set to 75 in the sim. If I was willing to settle for that I would have just got a Quest 3. I'd appreciate if you guys would stay away from the stores until I get mine. Then you can have at it!🤣

eBay is starting to get flooded with 5090s and their prices are dropping rapidly.  I keep getting email notifications of price drops even though I didn’t put any on a watchlist … gotta love eBay trackers.  Even if they sold 5090s below MSRP, I’d still not be interested.

Found an interesting company called “Bolt Graphics” and Zeus GPU, claim significant more performance in ray tracing (4X to 14X faster), gaming, and AI than nVidia and they don’t have to resort to gimmicks like DLSS/FSR (fake frames).

https://bolt.graphics/workload/gaming/

Contacted them for information … claim to work with DaVinci Resolve (my primary tool for video editing).

I took part in the online Bestbuy brouhaha this morning to get a 5090. No luck! I'm not even sure they were available in Canada but there was a Stock on Bestbuy in the US today for sure but its gone now probably. I absolutely Hate Nvidia! They've treated us like 💩

New power supply for the next gen GPUs.

Makes you wonder where it`s going in the future, going to need a lot of windfarms to power future PCs.

Also, something for the future in Gaming Graphics.

A 2800 watt PSU?  Wow!  I thought we were supposed to be going in the direction of using less energy.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.
