March 9, 20251 yr I'm suddenly getting this in MSFS2020 out of nowhere: https://imgur.com/ou7W24I I've got 55GB free, so what is causing this?? March 9, 20251 yr Windows needs a certain amount of free space to perform operations on the drive, so I am guessing that you have reached that limit. 55GB may sound a lot, but it means that (for example) nearly 95% of a 1TB drive is full. This does not leave a lot of space for Windows to work its wonderful magic Edited March 9, 20251 yr by Christopher Low Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester

In your picture, your installation is going onto the C drive. As the basic installation of MSFS is around 130GB, of course it won't fit. If you already have it installed, you will need to point it at the existing location, off the C drive.
March 9, 20251 yr Author I've had MSFS 2020 installed for years, with addons such as Fenix, PMDG etc. Why suddenly am I getting this? Is it an update? Surely with 60GB spare it should be able to install? It doesn't even tell me how much it needs...? March 9, 20251 yr Author Yea it's on my C drive. Was working fine during the day yesterday and then suddenly when I went to start it last night, I get this AMD Ryzen™ 9 9900X3D, AM5, Zen 5, 12 Core, 24 Threads, 4.4GHz, 5.5GHz Turbo 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz Corsair Vengeance 32GB GeForce® RTX 5090 Graphics Card

You don't say what size your drive is, or what other drives are in use, but all drives need some spare capacity to operate their management functions correctly. This will usually be a percentage of the total capacity, (ie. proportional to the size of the drive.) Drives cannot operate right up to their stated capacity. You may have been near that limit for some time with that drive. On this particular occasion, possibly MSFS has tried to update something and decided that you need more space for that operation, or maybe some basic drive maintenance operation was going on, which further reduced available capacity when you tried to use MSFS. It sounds like it's time to consider a larger capacity drive or reorganise space allocation on existing drives. John B
March 9, 20251 yr Author It looks like it's trying to install from scratch AMD Ryzen™ 9 9900X3D, AM5, Zen 5, 12 Core, 24 Threads, 4.4GHz, 5.5GHz Turbo 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz Corsair Vengeance 32GB GeForce® RTX 5090 Graphics Card

I have read various posts about this on Avsim, with possible solutions. A search will provide more info. I can't help on that issue because my cockpit still runs on P3D until I can adapt it to MSFS. However it does not answer the questions about drive space. Solid state drives work best when kept below about 80% of their stated capacity. They will work above that, but become increasingly inefficient. Performance will start reducing until the point when problems begin to show. John B
March 9, 20251 yr This error message is not about percentages left or performance. It is a simple message that states that MSFS wants to install more data than the C drive has space for. Given that we are told it is already on the C drive, it is probably because the installation location has defaulted to a different location to the existing files and MSFS wants to install a second version of itself.
