May 29, 200818 yr Commercial Member I've got some ideas:Go into developing.Missions are easy to make once you learn the SDKs...Write reviews for Avsim or volunteer at Avsim in some capacity...Make an FS website...There are a lot of things you can do that don't involve 'flying'. You might actually find them ultimately more satisfying than flying...Cheers,Bryan B. York FS2Crew Web Site / FS2Crew Facebook Page / FS2Crew Discord

May 29, 200818 yr Bryan echoes my best piece of advice: if you really like sim aviation, but you feel you are bored with what you have, join up with AVSIM. Never a dull moment. One thing that FSX does not let you do much of is shoot at things. I do have some personal concerns about weapons in aviation simulation, but on the other hand, I do play a lot of video games, and so have the bloody gibs of upwards of a million virtual souls on my hands (apologies to Tron). I've re-discovered Lock On and IL-2. I was playing those when they first came out, but now with FSX-based computer gear, rudder pedals, a good joystick, and above all, TrackIR, those older games now really run well. Unfortunately, I used to be pretty good at combat sim, but I seem to have lost my edge over time, so it's a bit of a haul to re-learn the ACMs. Still, give me AVSIM over the IL-2 forum any day. I am not looking forward to logging onto that part of cyberspace again. That's the kind of web-fanaticism that makes me dread to review WWII aircraft for AVSIM. May 29, 200818 yr Hi,watch out when FSPassengersX hits the market. There, you will start your career and get rewarded for good, accurate flights.Penalities, failures and unexpected events based on airline, airplane and region will keep you in a thrill in every phase of the flight.Missions are a nice start, but the events and actions should be generic and reusable. In addition, playing a different role (fighter pilot, bush pilot) in every mission kills all the identification with a character and situation...So, I hope in the next version we see a new entry, next to "free flight". There ACES should introduce multiple, open-end careers paths that allow you to grow and even to compare skills and passion within the community.Regards,Heiko
May 29, 200818 yr Not freeware, but buy FDC and PFE from Oncourse Software and you'll be enjoying your airline flights like never before. I wouldn't fly without them.
June 2, 200818 yr It might be, you're an experienced flightsimmer now. I remember in the early days of flightsimming, where I would be whiteknuckling it all the way down in my descent, and especially touching down everytime I made a landing. Now it is easier. I recently went for a REAL flight in a Piper with an experiencd pilot. It was a little turbulent that day, and when he came in for a landing, let me just say, he seemed a lot more busy than I ever am when I land in flightsim, even with ALL of the realism features ON. I could be wrong, but somewhere along the way, the ability to land has become much less realistic? For one, I can remember having to land IFR with zero visibility, when the clouds were just a white blanket in the computer screen, but would suddenly show you the runway as you got below them, and you would find yourself 200 feet above the runway and aligned perfectly. A deep feeling of satisfaction would come over me, and I would tenderly touch down, with my heart thumping, knowing that just a slight coming down too hard or too fast, would crash my aircraft. Now I use the instruments in IFR, but rarely need to as FS doesn't seem able to realistictly do IFR conditions anymore. Plus, have you ever noticed that outside views never have your plane enveloped in cloud? You can always see your entire plane (spot view). Plus you can land even with a very hard thump now, with no damage at all; and I mean hard! I think something has gone amiss here.Perhaps Microsoft, due to money, is moving from realism to easy in order to get more buyers. I've seen it happen in Mech simulators also. Went from realistic, to simple, because people want games. They don't really want to learn how to fly a plane, or really learn how to operate a huge hulking machine that in reality is very powerful, but very slow. They want fast, fast, fast, gimme racing-planes-that-twirl-in-the-sky-without-my-wings-breaking-off no matter what I do kind of "sims".So, to make my long story short. You are bored because...1. You are now a better flyer and simming is easier now.or,2. FS is not realistic anymore.
July 24, 200817 yr Hi, Donny! I would never have continued with FS or considered starting down the path of getting my real world PPL if it had not been for www.fs-mp.com It is a great community of folks: real world pilots and ATC as well as simmers like me. With multiplayer, you cannot expect traffic to be on 24/7, even in VATSIM, and even in VAATSIM, when there are 100 people on, they could be spread all over the plant--you might as well be alone. At least with fs-mp, I know that for the most part, traffic will be concntrated in one area. IFR night is fun, but so have the recent Thursday nights at Martin State. And the upcoming Oshkosh event will be great--even practicing for it now, there are many Gamespy folks giving it a shot. For me, the key to not getting bored is to constantly seek improvement. I tend to treat FSX less as a game and more as a learning tool for real aviation now.And good to see you, Donny!
July 24, 200817 yr I get a little boored so i make it challenging. Flying with a FMS or GPS give no challenges after a while, Why not try flying a beaver through the mountains in canada using only a compass and dead reckoning while its snowing, i even flew across new zealand in a ww1 plane with ony a compass, or do a round the world flights, ive done the uk completely, australia completely. 3/4 of japan all of southern africa, and have now made it up into saudi arabia heading to israel. do it with no gps and then try and find airports its a challenge.
July 25, 200817 yr I understand that these things take time but GEEEEZ,Where is FSCARGO for FSX?????????Setting up airports and then running random cargo runs was good, basic and FUN idea. Loading the cargo and watching the plane sink! That and FSpassengers kept me entertained and are 2 of the biggest reasons I miss FS9.
July 25, 200817 yr Hi Jim,I bet if you still had the FS9 disks they would install again! In the mean time there is FS Economy, and it works with FSX!!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
July 25, 200817 yr Dont tempt me.I had both FS9 and FSX with a small fortune in addons running when a new Raptor HD flew apart.Facing days of installing, thats when I said bye to fs9.I forget but sp1 or sp2 just came out and FSX was actually playable so I made that decision.I still have everything on dvd and emails.BTW-I uninstalled Accel so I could fly the x-15 which does not get along with it.Accel keeps you from climbing above 100,000.Anyways,I actually got ASX to load and its running. No simconnect errors..... Go figure.Still have a wierd issue.Sometimes when I start a freeflight, as soon as the screen loads the plane will accelerate VERY fast. If I do not catch it in time or not on a runway,it will collide and crash.I have also landed and came to a stop. Then as if catapulted, the plane will accelerate.I also own Xpax but I am paranoid to load anything else as FSX is already bloated enough.Heck just listen to me. Just keeping FSX running and never knowing what it will do next keeps me from getting bored.
July 25, 200817 yr Make sure your throttle is calibrated correctly in Windows and in the Off position before you load a flight. What did you do to get rid of your SimConnect error, nothing?Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
July 25, 200817 yr I have no clue.Ive learned that with the endless combinations of settings, programs, addons, tweaks, patches, the order things are loaded, drivers, figuring out what breaks and fixes problems is next to impossible.I think the endless swearing and threatening to throw my computer out of the window might have has something to do with it.ASX seems to be working but I am yet to see a Cumulonimbus cloud.I have flown in and around alot of large thunderstorms including the texas hurricain and have seen none.I am using FEX cloud textures if that makes a difference.Lots of rain, lightning and turb but no towers.I can also now use the menus without getting ctds. However, if I alt/enter out of fullscreen, its 50/50 that I will get a blackscreen.I can hit the windows start key and use other programs, change card settings, go online ect. But the fsx screen is black. Then eventually I get the "do you want to end the flight message if I hit esc.I do and it loads the default screen but its ,oblong with rounded edges. The rest of the surrounding screen is black.I take confort in knowing ALOT of us with Nvidia cards are having simular wierdness. You either do or you do not.XP,sp2,8800gt,2 gigs,Amd fx-62 dual core at 3.0ghz
July 25, 200817 yr Enthusiasm does seem to come and go - but right now for me I am really enjoying flying choppers in Tileproxy. It has taken me a while to get to learn how to fly the helos - but I can land them fairly well now. But what does have my absolute fascination is TileProxy. I have travelled quite extensively around the world - but there are literally thousands of famous places that I have never been to and never will. I find that TP gives a very good representation of what these places look like in real life. I use it as a kind of flying geography lesson. Last week, I was reading something about the Golan Heights and I realised that I didn't really know exactly where they were or just how high the "heights" are. So for the past couple of weeks I have been flying around all of northern Israel - from the fascinating Dead Sea - to Jerusalem and across to Gaza on the coast, north up the coast to Tel Aviv and Haifa and then up to the Golan Heights. I never quite realised how desolate the southern part of Israel is - but how green and productive the northern part is. Barry
