OK, then under Dynamic Settings I assume I set Frame Rate Target to 60 -- correct?
I should have mentioned I'm using a 4070Ti Super, Win11 and a 42" Samsung TV with both sims.

You do not use Dynamic settings as that will modify multiple settings like AutoFPS but the result is less snooth than when using AutoFPS.

Just use the max framerate setting and set it to 30.

Then with FG enabled this automatically will be doubled to 60.

Use AutoFPS to keep the 60 and make the sim snooth.

Ryan, you've honed in on exactly what I am trying to get a better understanding of. I might have to test NCP vs In-Sim FPS target setting and see what happens. V-Sync and the Dynamic FPS target options are greyed out if you use DLSS.

Yeah I use TAA.  Dlss is way too blurry for me especially with anything glass cockpit wise

Don't use the dynamic settings.

1.  Install SU3, very stable for me and more so than SU2
2.  In MSFS settings, set FPS limit to 30 (if you don't do step 1 above, you will need to set your frame limit to 30 in UserCfg.opt)
3.  Set Frame generation on, that will give you 60fps (I would recommend DLSS FG as you have an NVidia card).
4.  Optional - use Lossless scaling (available on Steam) to set X2 fps, to give you 120fps (I use this, superb).
5.  Set VSYNC to OFF everywhere.
6. Use TAA for AA in MSFS settings
7.  Optional - Install AutoFPS - this will give you higher OLOD & TLOD when resources allow.
8.  Optional - Install GPU-Z. This will help AutoFPS to manage VRAM

I do all steps above and get a wonderfully smooth and sharp display.

Thanks everyone for the excellent help. Last question (I hope!).

I see in the Nvidia Control Panel a setting called Max Frame Rate. When using Frame Generation with Frame Limiter set to 30 in the UserCfg.opt file, what should I set the CP Max Frame Rate setting to -- Off, 30 or 60?

Thank again,

Al

How can I use GPU-Z to help AutoFPS manage VRAM?   Do you mean just monitor vram and temps etc. using GPU-Z?  Because if so, I do that already sometimes.

For MSFS2024, the above is exactly what I've started doing and it is very very smooth on my 4K  60hz display (+ 4090 card)

Since I am on SU2, I am still setting frame limit inside the usercfg.opt file, but as I understand things in SU3 this can be set inside the MSFS2024 graphics settings UI.   I do not use the nvidia control panel frame rate limit (it's set to off).

I presently have vsync ON within the nvidia control panel.  I'm still trying to determine if vsync is necessary for my setup anymore...I think it probably is still needed on my configuration, if only to prevent tearing when panning.

Turning on Frame Generation disables the sim's Vsync option, so I assume you are turning Vsync on through the Nvidia Control Panel or app. I see there are Vsync options called adaptive and adaptive (half refresh rate). Are you using one of those settings?
I also have to think there must be some 'good' reason why the sim disables the Vsync option when Frame Generation is turned on (or maybe not  🤔). Maybe the sim assumes a G-Sync or FreeSync monitor is being used with Frame Generation??

I have a 4080 Super card and also run MSFS 2024 on a 4K 60 Hz monitor. I get very smooth performance in SU2 by setting frame limit to 30 in usercfg.opt and enabling FG at 2X in the game’s settings. With AutoFPS running as well, I can maintain a consistent 60 FPS in nearly all settings. I keep Vsync on in the Nvidia control panel, because without it on, I do get tearing when panning.

If GPU-Z is running, AutoFPS itself uses GPU-Z to monitor VRAM usage.
