Now's your chance to be a XP community hero and record a ETW trace when it's glitching to send to LR in a bug report.

If I knew what that was I would do it 😁

Tip, instead of a complete reinstall one can also run the installer against the current folder and let it repair whatever this skunkcraft has broken. Or remove the output and resources folders and let

Installed a second copy of XP12 - no plugins or anything added. Completely smooth, just a few small stutters.

Would the Log.txt file show me what is happening during this stuttering?  What should I look out for?

This video shows the extent of the stuttering in the Rivatuner graph top left.  Smooth then 25 seconds or so of big stuttering.

What is your FPS set to?

Are you talking about the stuttering in this area? Because I get that too, but only when using lossless scaling and OBS for screen recording.

No, not that - I assume that is something in the beta.  If you play the video full screen on YouTube and look at the top left.  You will see a graph line which is smooth.  after about 20 seconds you will see the stutters show on that graph for about 25 seconds before smoothness returns.

See the drop down under "guidelines for fps issues/stutters"

Traces app downloaded, installed and run.  Two trace reports saved and attached to a bug report with Log.txt - thank you for that 😎😊

Hmm - if someone forced me to guess I would say it is some external process impacting your CPU - I don´t think it is X-Plane because you are not moving.

If you want to get to the bottom of this, you will need to remove EVERYTHING you have added to X-Plane - basically reverting to a vanilla state (as if you just installed it). Then test again.

If you have the stutters then, time to troubleshoot your hardware/operating system. If you don´t, it is time to start the process of elimination - add one add-on, test for (a few weeks) a while, then add the next add-on.

I do sound like a broken record, but the more third-party, the more fragile your installation - also: Never add "a bunch of stuff" quickly, because when something like this happens, you have no idea WHICH of your addons brought it about.

I discovered the Microprofiler in the debug menu.  The trace shows exactly where the stuttering starts and stops.  There is an 'App Update' bar all the way through the trace in each 'Frame Segment', but when the stuttering starts, this app update bar is much longer for each frame.  At the end of the stuttering this bar goes back to its original size.

Profiler1.png

At the point the stuttering starts.

Profiler2.png

So each 'Frame Boundary' it looks like XP12 isn't doing anything until the end of the frame.

Up until this finding I was beginning to think video drivers.

Well...there were statements like those below that I think made us all think it was coming from outside of XP.

If I check Plugin Admin I see no 'cost' against any plugin. If I go into the performance tab, I just see a solid circle for X-Plane - nothing that matches up to this stutter.  If I monitor processes in task manager, I don't see anything in the process list that matches up to the stutter.  In Microsoft Defender, I have excluded the folders for X-Plane and the folders used by the Map Enhancement tool.

I have also run with no plugins at all...

I think the real issue here is that XP's Safe Mode is still just too new to roll off our tongues as the first thing to check.

Will be interesting to see what was causing it after all.

There you have your answer. Now find out which one of your add-ons is starting them.

Again: "Pimping" your X-Plane installation can be fun and rewarding (for some more so than actually using it), but if you don´t go about it methodically with ample testing time in between each step, you will invariably find yourself in this spot again - suffering from crashes or other ill effects without knowing at which point you pulled out the card that makes your house of cards collapse.

Me too - last thing I did was to go back to a previous version but it was still the same. All good now though, high settings at 45fps to 90fps with Lossless scaling.

Did you delete that buggy install folder? If not, does safe mode recover the performance?
