0xc0000005 crash msfs2024

Featured Replies

Ive been on msfs 2024 now for a couple of weeks, flew the pmdg 777 for many hours crash free until today.  I had a random  0xc0000005 crash today in vr.  I changed two settings on this flight, turned off smt, and turned on nvidia reflex+ boost.  Is reflex+ boost known to cause any issues or was this just random?  Before I switched to 2024 i hadnt had a crash in msfs2020 in at least 6+ months.

Smt off caused 2024 to CtD also at my end. (AMD 9900x3d and VR).

Nvidia Boost and reflex are on till today and I do not suffer from CtD because smt I turned on again.

My only CtD free driver is 566.xx

All newer drivers from Nvidia causing instability with that code you wrote.

I had this error that drove me crazy for a few days.
Reverting to an earlier NVidia driver solved this problem...

Ive heard some not so great things about this latest driver, maybe that is the issue

I agree entirely; many systems with 566.xx drivers are very stable. I can use the app with all the filters without any crashes to desktop (CTD). Unfortunately, NVIDIA has dropped the ball lately with their products, especially their drivers. It's not enough with MSFS2024 problems; let's introduce more issues to drive customers crazy. We ran out of good programmers for some unknown reason.

Oh no!  I dont think i can go back to smt on, smt off is smooth as butter in comparison!  Why would smt off cause instability?  I also just got a 5090 so the 566.xx drivers are off the table for me

Im going to answer my own question, with smt off  I think the cpu was hitting a higher boost clock.  Im going to lower my pbo overclock settings to -10 vcore +100pbo from -20 vcore +200pbo where I had it.

Now ya talking Chinese to me 🤣

Do you touch those settings in your GPU? Wow! I would never, but I'm a chicken simmer. / desktop user (at home...)...

Why are you over clocking your system, then post why are you CTD????

Yeah its a bit confusing at first, its how you overclock these x3d cpus, not the gpu, I wont bother ocing that.  Simming is what got me into overclocking 15+ years ago so im used to it.  You basically undervolt and add a bias to the factory clockspeed/voltage curve.  Its been stable like that for many months, not a single hardware related crash.  But disabling smt pulls less power and therefore allows the algorithms frequency curve to boost to higher clock speeds for much longer periods. This is probably what also makes it feel so much smoother.  I didnt catch that at first so its probably not stable at those higher clocks.  I will retest tonight with it downclocked to only +100mhz.

Well just to update this thread in case it helps anyone, the crash had nothing to do with the overclock.  The crash was caused by disabling SMT, it seems with FS2024 just the 8 cpu cores without SMT enabled were just not enough for stability.
