Social Media!

"OK, Boomer."  😄 😄

Relax, Buddy.  Put down the phone.  Go outside.  Touch grass.  Take your doggie to the dog park.

I totaly agree with the comments in the video. Watching people spend more time reaching for their phone to film someone getting beaten up so they can post it on antisocial media rather than doing something to help is a sad indictment of todays world.

From a proud Boomer and not insulted when I'm called it. Oh and I sent this from the park while letting my dog go for a run. 😁

Hey Brian!  That was meant to be ironic.  I'm 75 myself, also a proud boomer. 😄

Another boomer here. Boomers is bestest!

And to be honest, I never paid much attention to the social media criticism.... but just lately its become apparent its a cesspit. Replete with all manner of nastiness. Animals deliberately put in danger so some nasty person can get views, fake stories, AI fake videos impersonating politicians and celebrities. Not to mention, jam-packed with bonkers conspiracy theories. Cruel comments directed at those with physical and mental issues.

Lots of gullible people absorb this stuff and it doesn't bode well.

I guess it all depends on when you first got involved with social media.  For me, it was in the mid to late 80's on dial-up BBS systems (FidoNET) and a public-access Unix system (SDF) and USENET.  I first got Internet in 1994.

I was on various IRC (Internet Relay Chat) systems, had an early ICQ account.  Ended up making friends all over the world.  Used to have in-person parties with local chatters.  Even got on a  plane once to meet a few online friends.

Modern social media is both the same and very different.  For example, what we're doing right now is social media.  I don't have a smart phone, but my wife texting on hers isn't much different from the old IRC chats... except she doesn't have friends on other continents.

Given what I've gotten out of social media over the decades, I'd prefer not to give it all up.  I'll just avoid the more toxic areas.

Back as early as the 60's if you stopped to help someone it was possible that they'd sue you.  It took a brave person to help.

About a year ago I stopped to help someone having a diabetic episode and my son's wife (in her 40s) thought I shouldn't have.  Several of us were helping.  It was just the right thing to do.

In 1971 I was at a local airport with my 35mm camera and watched a glider crash (pilot wasn't hurt, glider didn't fare so well).  The film was already wound... the glider flew within 50 feet of me... and I never thought to take any pictures.

A few years later a friend and I watched a Dairy Queen owner get beat up by an irate customer and didn't try to interfere.  We went to court as witnesses but were never called, and the court ruled against the DQ owner.  If we'd gotten involved we would have been ruled against as well.  Go ahead, take your chances.

'OK Boomer' is about the worst catch phrase I ever heard coming from a generation that hasn't contributed much other then perhaps that catch phrase 🤣

Boomers did this when they were young and angry, which was better then a catch phrase

Yeah I did get that I thought I'd stir the pot with those not fortunate enough to be born in the golden era 😁

That sort of highlights my point really, you were more concerned about the plight of the pilot than a possibly morbid record of someones missfortune. Today it seems as if it's all "what's in it for me".
Am I turning into a miserable, bitter, cynical, old fart. Yup probably I'm 67 this year and more than happy with my moral stance, I still treat others the way I expect them to treat me wish more people today felt the same way.

More like totally stunned and forgot I was holding a camera. A glider's wings make a LOT of noise when they're slicing the air a stone's throw from your head.

Other people's comments at the time:  "Heh!  He's wearing a parachute." 😄
