July 18, 2025Jul 18 You can always tell how popular a release is by aircraft type on Vatsim. Currently there are: 777W=84, 772=63 and 77L=20. Of the 20, many are freighters. Nevertheless, I am more than puzzled at the $50 asking price. There were even fewer 777-200LRs sold than 737-600s, so that price point does not make a lot of sense, particularly as PMDG stated early on that there would probably be an "entry level" option in the 777 series (matching the 737 series), and that would certainly have been the 200LR. I was initially going to wait for the LR precisely because I expected it to be released at a significantly lower price than the others, but at only $5 cheaper than the F......well, I am not sure what to make of that one......unless I accept your own theory that RSR and PMDG are "money grabbers" the 736 is PMDG’s “first time buyers program”. The price is designed for people who don’t want to spend $$$$ on a Study Level Airliner to give it a try exactly because it’s so inexpensive. Then, once they get a taste, they’re far more likely to buy up to the next bigger or more common Boeing than hopping over to Fenix or iniBuilds. Especially if there’s a giant long haul wide body 777 available for >30% less $$$ than an A350 or single aisle regional jet. So, it IS the cheapest of the 777’s, and its purpose ISNT to reward loyal PMDG / Boeing customers, it’s to keep people from jumping to other brands. Which I’m sure it will do in spades. For all the critics, there are very few airplanes released that are more mature and complete than theirs. EXACTLY right. when it comes to wide bodies, I prefer the 747 series. I have the 747-8 in P3D and was never in the least tempted to get the 777. And a big part of that was because the 747 and 777 together were a HUGE hunk of change. And if you’re already flying The Queen, well… but at $50, I’m more than willing to jump in, especially as PMDG’s 747s (or 737’s!) aren’t even an option for 2024.
July 20, 2025Jul 20 Interesting discussion.... the 777-300 is working just fine, sounds fine and flies well for me. The recent update was a sold win IMO. 7800+4090+64ram Just Flight RJ, 146 and F28, Piper Arrows ---A2A Aerostar and Comanche---Black Square Starship, Duke(s), TBM, Bonanza/BaronV2, KingAir---FSReborn FSR500---COWS Da42---FX P180, HJet & VJet---FlySimWare Chancellor and LearJet---FlightSimStudio EMB175 &P2006T---Fenix 320---PMDG DC6, 737(700+900), 777---C22J---Milviz Cessna 310 & Porter---SimWorksStudios Kodiak, PC12, Zenith & RV14---BigRadials Goose---IndiaFoxEcho MB3339+F35.
