diffuse swelling and tendonitis throughout the hand

Any repetitive hand movement? Tendinitis is usually overuse.

A mouse.  That's about it.  I'm a retired Physical Therapist so it's very puzzling to me???  I think one of my old rotator cuff repair patients must practice Voodoo and is getting even for all the passive range of motion stretches😏

I have an under active thyroid that can cause such issues, just a thought.

Blood work is all normal.  All the blood work for the rheumatologist was within normal limits.  Although not common, gout is not that rare in the hand, but my uric acid levels were also within normal limits.  The doctors are more puzzled than me.  It's a real bummer because I can no longer ride my motorcycle.  I can't pull the front brake lever.  At 70 yrs old, I had my share of great rides over a 54 yr period.  No regrets!

Oh man! I feel for you. I actually retire in a little over sixteen hours and I'm pretty sure I'm about to reward myself with a Ducati.🫡

Must be pretty painful then. My issue is golfers elbow if I over do the resistance training. Also subacromial bursitis but it seems a bit better, lately.

Tendon flexibility reduces with age making wrist injuries more likely, but I'm wondering if your issue might be referred from further up the chain, elbow or even shoulder. Sleeping position can do it.

Sorry, you're the expert being a former physio, just trying to help.

Are there any excercises that can help? Gentle wrist curls, reverse wrist curls, wrist roller, eccentric reps etc. Very gentle well away from failure.

I've read that previous tenis elbow can make you more prone to wrist tendinitis

Which model Ducati.  Don't rule out the Triumphs.  My previous two bikes were a 1050 Sprint and 1050 Tiger.  Maybe the best two bikes I ever owned.   If you're going purely sport bike, oh heck yes to the Ducati.

Yes, an MRI is a BIG no-no for you.  I can empathize with the hand pain if that's what you having.  I've had profound right hand pain for 8 months now, insidious onset.  MRI showed diffuse swelling and tendonitis throughout the hand.  Hand surgeon and rheumatologist can't figure out what's going on.  Good luck to you.

I see the hand surgeon on Wednesday. Just got the news today. I'm guessing the MRI won't happen now so perhaps they found some metal in my eye. It's a big lump that grew on my top joint of my right index finger. It's still growing and causing work problems for me now. No pain at all. It's not a ganglion. That's all I know. My GP thinks it's certainly not malignant though. I hope you get to the bottom of that pain. Chronic pain is no fun!

It's going to be a Monster. It won't be a 'new' one either.  I'm not keen on modern styling.

There's a 2007 Monster SR2 802cc for sale just down the road from me. It's one owner, immaculate and full history. I've already ridden it.😎

If I was going to have another Triumph it would be a sixties one but I've already got a 1949 500cc BSA which is a great, dog eared lump of a motorcycle that gets rolled out on high days and holidays.

Ten years ago, in a fit of middle aged madness I bought a GSXR 750. It was an amazing machine; fast, comfortable, great handling, etc...as long as you were doing over 90mph. Anything below that  and it became a pain in the neck, the knees, the wrists and the rear end. It quickly became apparent that if I wanted to make it to retirement in one piece it would have to go.

I really hope you manage to get on a motorcycle again in the future.

Best wishes👍

The Monster is a great bike, Great choice.  Enjoy!

I'm a retired doc but there is an amusing story from one of the hospitals where I worked which happened soon after their first MRI scanner was installed.

One night a domestic asistant was working in the XRay department doing her job and went into the MRI room to clean it. As the light in the room was dull she needed some more so turned on what she thought was a light switch. At that the vacuum cleaner leapt from the floor and attached itself to the MRI scanner! The lady ran out screaming and apparently it took quite a while to convince her that the room wasn't actually haunted!!
