July 29, 2025Jul 29 Hi please someone can advise how to, my MSFS2024 is on drive D and I’m running out of space. How do I move community folder and other folders to E drive please? please advise and thank you in advance
July 29, 2025Jul 29 Your community folder will normally be the biggest so that is the first one to do. At your own risk... Find your usercfg.opt file, you may have to search for it, make a backup and save it somewhere, then change the very last line of the file to your new location you want on E: e.g. E:/MSFS2024/Community should do. Then drag / copy the community folder there. If everything works fine afterwards on next start up, you can delete the old folder to regain the space off the D: drive, or save it somewhere else as a backup. I would also move the rolling cache to your E: if you have space. This can be done from the internal MSFS settings. I would suggest in E:/MSFS2024/ again. Then just delete the old rolling cache file to regain space (original may actually be on your C: drive if you look). I would suggest a 16GB size for this. You may not need to move any more as that will be the vast bulk of it. PS. ensure not to get confused with the MSFS2020 files if you had that installed, particularly with the user config file, as 2020 has it's own file. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). July 29, 2025Jul 29 Author Thank you so much that is very clear. While I move community folder to the new E drive isn’t better to point to the new location through MSFS settings?

While I move community folder to the new E drive isn’t better to point to the new location through MSFS settings? Have a careful look at this.. On my system, the usercfg.opt file points to the folder that contains the Community folder. So I would change the line to: InstalledPackagesPath "E:\MSFS2024" Then copy your Community folder into the MSFS2024 folder on your E drive. Bert
July 29, 2025Jul 29 Hi, the above information works for 2020 and can work for 2024. But there is a much easier foolproof way that only works for 2024: First, create a folder named community by yourself manually in Windows File Explorer. Next, go to the 2024 Marketplace. Choose My Library up at the top left corner. Now from there you must select the smallest of the two ships wheel icons (these are settings icons). There you can change the path of where your 2024 community folder will be located. And it will even allow you to check if the path that you typed in is indeed pointing to the folder that you first created. July 29, 2025Jul 29 Author Fielder my friend I think that’s the simplest and more convenient way to move MSFS2024 folder (community) to its new location and not mess with usercfg.opt file. Thank you all for your support

Thank you all for your support I am not sure this will "move your folder".. you may have to do this manually regardless, as indicated above! I think this is just a different way of editing the InstalledPackagesPath line, via a (well hidden) UI in the sim settings.. 😉 Edited July 29, 2025Jul 29 by Bert Pieke Bert

Shall i move all of them to the new MSFS2024 Folder? I would copy, not move, initially. And yes, you can copy the OfficIal and Streamed folders as well. If not, they will be recreated. When you change settings in MSFS, it writes those changes to usercfg.opt, so its the same thing. @Fielder explained it well above 😊 CPU Ryzen 7800X 3D RAM 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz GPU GEFORCE RTX 4090 Monitor AOC AGON AG352UCG UltraWide G-Sync @ 3440x1440 Internal Storage 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD External Storage Three 4Tb HDs

July 29, 2025Jul 29 Here is the MS Copilot answer: how do i move the msfs2024 community folder to another drive You can move the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS2024) Community folder to another drive using one of two methods—either through the in-game interface or by manually editing a configuration file. Here's how to do both: 🛠️ Method 1: Use the In-Sim Interface (Easy Way) Launch MSFS2024 Go to the Marketplace tab. Click on My Library. Find the gear icon next to the search bar and click it. A pop-up will appear showing your current Community folder location. Click Browse and select a new folder on your desired drive (e.g., E:\MSFS2024). Click Confirm. MSFS2024 will create the necessary folders (Community, Official2020, Official2024) in the new location Method 2: Edit the UserCfg.opt File (Advanced) Navigate to: AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\ 2. Open the file `UserCfg.opt` with a text editor (e.g., Notepad). 3. Scroll to the bottom and find the line: InstalledPackagesPath "C:\..." 4. Replace the path inside the quotes with your new desired location: InstalledPackagesPath "E:\MSFS2024" Edited July 29, 2025Jul 29 by Bert Pieke Bert
