Transitioning from Dual Install to MSFS 2024 Exclusively

So, what happens with respect to addons if I buy a new PC, and switch to MSFS 2024 at the same time? How would I transfer (for example) ORBx installed addons to the new simulator without having MSFS 2020 installed at the same time?

Assuming these are addons you already have installed in 2020, and that you won't by new 2020-only addons: I'd just keep the 2020 community folder around.

If you installed your ORBx addons to a library folder, just use something like addon linker to create an alias in the msfs 2024 community folder.

In this case, I would not have a folder to link to, because I would not be installing MSFS 2020 on the new PC. I do keep a backup of my MSFS 2020 Community folder.

I have meanwhile uninstalled MSFS2020 but kept a backup of my scenery addons. For ORBX and Contrail administered add-ons I only (re)installed official 2024-compatible add-ons. Same I did with two Aerosoft airports.

Apps/Utilities which were active for both versions (BATC, FSiPanel, Lorby AAos, ...), I had uninstalled before I removed MSFS2020 and then installed them again.

The whole process took me about three hours.

Anybody happen to have a link to the instructions on how to uninstall 2020 but leave some specific folders in place so all the addon managers still see it?  Ie: orbx

This should work:

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/found-a-way-to-install-just-flight-planes-into-2024/693819?u=ryanbatc

Just note that it mentions the UserOpt.config file, when what is needed is usercfg.opt (at least on my system).

The one thing that bit me is that you don't want to leave this active all the time.  I was updating some Navigraph databases and nothing would work.  Long story short, the app was installing the 2020 version into 2024, and nothing worked.

My recommendation is set it up, install what you need, and then remove it (save it away for future use).

This worked for me when installing some planes that didn't have 2024 installers like the Black Square Dukes.
