nvidia smooth motion for vr

Guess I wasn't so lucky. I installed latest Nvidia app and driver, and immediately MSFS 2024 crashed when starting up.

I can offer to trade your non-compliant 50 fps RTX 5090 for my RTX 4090 with Smooth Motion running 60 fps, Quality setting, EGLC on Pimax. that's what VR friends are for. offer won't last long though. only 1 left.

FrameGen and Smooth Motion activated together? can have only either or, otherwise  crash/flicker inevitable. overclocked RTX 5090 user reported crash here earlier as well.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

I really must turn on the Dev Tools to see the actual FPS I'm getting - but I haven't changed my target in MSFS Settings which is still at 30.

If I can find how to post photos since Imgur gave up on the UK, I'll try to post my nVidia App, MSFS2024 and Pimax Play screenshots.

Just had another flight - this time the Flying Irons Spitfire, low and slow along the Thames through Central London.  The crazy, crazy, crazy thing is that I haven't changed my OLOD settings at all - but now have sharp, crisp views of towers, buildings and masts miles and miles away.

I'm trying to post some screenshots of my settings.  I've followed the 'Help' stuff but, whether I try to paste a Flikr link or a Dropbox link, it just flashes red when I try to insert.  Can anyone give me a brief 'don't forget to' or point me towards a more helpful Help section?

Is this working with WMR, HP G2, W11 23H2?, I tried in NvidiaInspector and smooth motion setting in on, and HAGS off/on, and nothing, I didn,t note a difference. I am with a 50XX card and a X3D CPU, and last Nvidia Driver, and DLSS 4.5 in Quality, without Nvidia App installed, and not fps limiters.

HAGS must be On for Smooth Motion to be able to turn on.

Is it worth installing the nVidia App?  It shows you on the nVidia App screen if Smooth Motion has successfully switched on or not, with helpful hints if it hasn't.

I turned Developer Mode on to be able to see the stats and flew the Spitfire round the Mach Loop course, and then booted up and took off in the PMDG 737-800, both using the Pimax Crystal Light.

In both cases I was showing a consistent 42-48fps, with the Graphics Queue being the limiting factor.  Ram/Vram useage, etc, appeared to be operating well within my specs.

Both flights were sharp, clear, smooth and stutter-free.

Just checking if this works.  It does!  These are my VR Graphics settings.  Let me know if you can/can't see the shot from the link

And these are my nVidia App settings.  Note that the Smooth Motion being on disables both DLSS Frame Gen Override and Low Latency (which maybe because I'm on a RTX4080)

Does this then cover the age verification process too (ref their free option stopping because they didn't want to pay for implementing that process for UK users)?

Great if it does as I have hundreds of shots on a guitar building forum that just shows blue boxes at the moment instead of shots of the build progress over the 10 years or so of building them!!

be advised developer mode fps counter will not count FrameGen nor Smooth Motion generated "Fake Frames". it can only count it's own genuine frames. the frames generated externally, NVidia driver generated , it has no idea of. so basically it will only show 1/2 of what Smooth Motion or FrameGen will show.

great info AJ! hope this will help those who couldn't activate SMOOTH MOTION. my HAGS setting has always been ON so I didn't explicitly check this, but it says so in the NVidia App if you click on the context sensitive "i" icon next to Smooth Motion. unfortunately this will still show "ON" even if HAGS is deactivated, albeit greyed out. so check this setting carefully.

Dang! Try as I might, I can't get any improvement with this setting. Does anyone know if Virtual Desktop messes it up?
