September 13, 2025Sep 13 I don’t usually do long haul flights unless I’m testing memory leaks or some other issue. Most of my flights are 1-2 hours max. But to each his or her own. Perhaps these are some reasons: 1. Reward for getting the fuel calculations correct or close 2. The intense pressure of making a good landing so as to not see the 10 hours of flight being wasted 3. Experiencing time zone change 4. Stability testing and reward of one’s GPU not catching on fire 🙂 5. It’s a cold winter night so rather than turn on the heating you use the PC to warm the room 6. You want to finalize the divorce 7. Need background noise to get to sleep 8. You want to make sure you stay single 9. Why to leave it on for 8 hours and go to sleep when you can just jump to T/D, or even use time acceleration. I guess its the feeling of "i did a long haul flight"... Everyone so far is ignoring (or unaware) of the fact that if you belong to a Virtual Airline, as I do, some ban time acceleration and therefore such flights are not allowed to count on your log. All my flights are in real time, 6 to 8 hours quite common. I do my planning, watch GSX doing its thing, take off using my ATC program and then get to cruising. From then, it is A/P on and do what I would normally do, go out, shop, walk the dog etc. then later, land. I don't usually leave the flight on overnight, as the PC makes too much noise for the other, extremely light sleepers, in the house. I regularly fly around the world and have strategically placed payware airports to make it interesting. I have been doing it like this for the past 10 years and still find it enjoyable. September 13, 2025Sep 13 1 through 5 plus 9, plus 10. It's a simulation, so by not using time acceleration and instead "wasting" electricity I am somewhat emulating the hydrocarbons burned that a real AC would use flying a long haul (or any other flight for that matter). Since I am flying the C750 cross country with just a few passengers I wonder if I should turn on all the lights in my house to use more energy. Joe Lorenc
