Rolling cache

Featured Replies

Hey guys

So this would be my first time using rolling cache in ms2020 su16

I have a 1000mbps of internet which i dont understand why but  some areas look like garbage with photogrammetry.

Will this help? I usually fly long haul

Kjfk to omdb cyvr to yssy vhhh to egll etc etc.

Is 128gb rolling cache fine?

Thanks

Mike

PG is not the same all over the world. Some places are better than others.

If you can post some screenshots of what you see, others can tell you if something is wrong with your configuration, or whether this is just what everyone sees.

Seems like a certain radius its fine flying east bound i noticed melted buildings. Is this normal?

Thanks

In FS 2024 I use 32 GB, sometimes even only the default 16 GB.

My home net is presently 200 / 50 Mbps

Thank you

Rolling cache is used only when you fly over an area for the 2nd time.

If you fly over a PG city for the first time (or after it has been purged already from the rolling cache) and your connection to MS servers is not fast enough, you will have bad PG even with a 1 TB rolling cache.

Personally, I don't use the rolling cache in MSFS, and I have a very smooth experience and sharp tiles and PG.

I use the default 16 GB on FS2024 because FS2024 without rolling cache at all manifests graphics issues / slow loading even of the aircraft assets. I tried bigger sizes but didn't do anything good.

The rolling cache is pretty much useless in 2024.

That is not the case in 2020.

Had mine set at 128 in 2020.

As others have said though, your cache will not have an effect on PG

Strange, it's the other way around according to my experience.

That is not my experience in 2024 Ron, and it will depend on your internet speed anyway.

The first time I enter an area I see objects streaming in and wait for everything to load, even with a 500 mbs connection.  It only takes 4 or 5 seconds, but it is there.

If I quit MSFS for the day and start MSFS the next day in the same area, the scenery loads virtually instantly.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Yes but how much cache are you using. the Standard 16 to 32 or extra.

In 2020, I was miserable until I added my 128.

In 2024, I have it set to 32 as anything over did not change anything.

Interesting replies thank you.

I will test with 32 and 128 and see how i go . If its the same issue well it has to be server issues.

I am using 2020  currently.

I don't know exactly what you mean by miserable. What kind of connection are you using and what are your PC specs?

As I wrote above, I use the standard 16 GB in FS2024 to make sure that characters, airport and aircraft textures are loaded quickly when I start a flight.

As for MSFS, for me it works much better without rolling cache (which caused only stutters) since years. I disabled it one day in early 2021 and never looked back.

If you fly low and slow in 2024 you will benefit from a bigger rolling cache,on the other hand, if you fly long hauls at high altitudes, there is no real benefit from the standard 16gb cache. This comes directly from Asobo regarding rolling cache in FS2024.

Regarding FS2020, disabling RC helps minimize stutters.

I had good specs and I was getting way more stutters in 2020 without the cache.

The rolling cache completely eliminated it.

Lots of people did well without it. Lots of people did better with it.

2024 is a very different beast. I use 32 just for the heck of it, but I was fine with 16. Testing it to see if I get less terrain pop ups.

Not to be disrespectful, but why do you keep going on about 2024. He is using 2020.

Anyway no harm in trying with a small or large cache as it very easy to change back if it does not work better.
