A week living at an apartment on 3 mile final to KNBA

Featured Replies

I just spent a week at an apartment on 3 mile final to runway 20R at KNBA.  Airliners (B73X, A32X and regional jets) flying over the apartment at about 1,000 feet every 3 to 4 minutes from early morning into the night.  I sat on the back deck listening to them approach and then flying overhead and was utterly amazed at the enormous power of the airplanes.  It doesn't come across in the sim and not even if you sit at the observation point at the airport.  From underneath you hear and feel the immense power and the weight of them all around.  It was so cool and gave me a perspective on airliners that I never had before.  I highly recommend that you try it if you get the chance!

...and the smell of burnt Jet fuel to add to the senses, don't you just love all things aviation.

That is awesome! Yes, what most people find annoying, I absolutely love it!

I stayed at an apartment very close to Shanghai Hongqiao once with a nice balcony. It was perfect for spotting. And although most websites/apps were blocked by the Great Firewall (an ominous sign from one of the neighboring threads here in the hangar 😉), Flightradar24 worked, so I basically needed to be dragged off the balcony to do anything else.

When I'm in Taipei one of my favorite places to hang out is here. I feel it would actually be dangerous to climb up on one of the fences.

If you're flying into or out of Heathrow and fancy a bit of plane spotting, simply get off the Tube at Hatton Cross and walk five minutes back up the road towards the airport....

I had a similar experience, recently. Less horsepower, but I had the opertunity to be really close to a Royal Navy Merlin taking off. Got hit with a hurricane and stumbled back against a parked car. Watched two takeoffs and one landing.

I used to park near the end of the runway, watching B-52s and KC-135s land.  So close you can wave to pilots!

Don’t you mean KBNA (Nashville)? KNBA is Kanab, Utah which appears to be a small GA airport with a single runway.

Yes, KBNA.  Ugh.  I was tired when I posted.
