October 11, 2025Oct 11 Author Yeah, it's a great set. Chessbarron has a USA sales site, but prices seem steeper. But there's no sales tax or shipping cost added on. That's where I bought mine: https://www.chessbaron.com/ ------------ In Europe, Amazon UK is the best place to buy from chessbaron UK. But the best site (below) in Europe for theme chess is in Pisa, Italy. They ship free to the UK. But they make all their own unique sets, not found elsewhere. But it's quality. But their webpage seems to work only with Edge, not Firefox. And then only when I type the word "chess" in their top search bar. Otherwise I can't see anything at all on the site. Their site UI is weird, but they are a very solid company with fast service to America: https://www.chessstoreonline.com/ 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. October 11, 2025Oct 11 I play chess a lot, on-line. And to be honest, if I were playing over the board with those picies I'd get mixed up which were whitch and probably blunder a vital piece. 🫣 Edited October 11, 2025Oct 11 by martin-w
October 11, 2025Oct 11 Wow! That pirates vs the royal navy caught my eye. What a neat show piece. Vic green
October 12, 2025Oct 12 Author To late to edit post above, but for the record, the Americas' knights are Inca warriors, not Mayan warriors. The only Mayan pieces are the Mayan Priest (long hair), and the Mayan Chichen Itza pyramid. Aztecs, Mayans, Incas, all advanced civilizations. The Carib natives (pawns) are not civilized. 1987 Spanish stamp (Pinzón brothers). Older brother in front Martin Capitan of Pinta. Younger Vincente captain of Niña. It was de Deza who persuaded Isabella to give audience to Columbus. de Deza on the left points to the map to advise Columbus (on the right). 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. October 13, 2025Oct 13 Author Amerigo Vespucci, the cheeky Italian. On a later voyage, Columbus landed on Venezuela, and then soon later Cabral (Portugal) landed on Brazil in January. He called the river bay Rio de Janeiro. Neither suspected the land they saw was anything but a small island. Meanwhile another voyage sailed from Spain led by de Ojeda. One ship in the large group was commanded by Vespucci. de Ojeda's group going West met up with Cabral sailing back East to Europe, and so de Ojeda also went to Rio. And then de Ojeda took all the best ships North to see what Columbus had earlier found, leaving Vespucci with his tiny group of ships to guard Rio. But Vespucci did not stay put, he sailed his tiny group South looking for the passage to India and glory for himself. He sailed on and on for days and never ran out of land. He gave up and went back to Rio. After returning to Europe, Vespucci wrote letters to important nobles about the trip. One of the Noble's map maker realized that yes Vespucci had shown the new world to be a huge continent, not a group of small islands! Europa, Asia, Africa all had feminine names, so the map maker feminized the word Amerigo to America and put that label on his map. Vespucci suddenly became famous instead of a nobody and began writing best seller books. Some scholars now believe he exaggerated or made stuff up, LOL! But his name is going to be there on every world map for centuries!
