As it turns out, they don't. The problem for all payware developers is that they have to sell products that actually work as they intended, otherwise, customers would quite rightly complain loudly, as can be seen every day in this and other forums. If PMDG, or any other developer, releases a payware MSFS 2020 product as compatible with MSFS 2024, the same critics would be down on it like a swarm of locusts. However, if a user can make it work using a workaround to install it, they are usually much less demanding and much more willing to overlook any small imperfections, in exchange for being able to use it in what is essentially, the wrong simulator. As ever, it's a matter of personal choice, but the workaround only has to be done once and then works across the whole range of MSFS 2020 installers.

That is what I meant, depending on the installer, you must be extra careful: I once did not check it properly and Aerosoft One was telling me that an update was available for one of my products and by mistake I then installed the MSFS2020 update for EDDB over the MSFS2024 installation of my EDDB copy. What a mess. Because of this, I usually just do the workaround to install specific addons and then I get rid of this fake MSFS2020 installation instantly again, because it MIGHT mess everything up 😉 Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024

(I don't have the Optica so can't test that) I am trying to find points of difference with systems that do work. I am using Win10 & purchased MSFS 2024 from the Microsoft Store, [not Steam]. Do you have a different set up? T45
October 20, 2025Oct 20 The Optica is just the aircraft that was selected, a red herring. The DC 6 is installed, or rather copied, to "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Community\pmdg-aircraft-dc6". "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024" being the folder that I created for the Microsoft Store to install into. The last line of my Usercfg.opt file reads: InstalledPackagesPath "M:\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024", which is the containing folder of my Community folder, as can be seen. I am not in the beta program, so it's MSFS 2024 version 1.5.27.0 Windows 11, but that is also a red herring. If you can replicate that, you should also see it in MSFS 2024 Edited October 20, 2025Oct 20 by Reader
December 22, 2025Dec 22 If PMDG charged for the 737 upgrade...you can bet your bottoms they'll do so for the DC6 if it ever comes back! Aleksandar Djordjevic

I'm not so sure, as the DC-6 works fine if you copy the DC6 installed folder into MSFS 2024 Community folder.
