//42 Typical Weather App

Featured Replies

I decided to give the //42 Typical Weather app from the MP ($19.99) a spin today.

Not much to say except it is a nice way to control most aspects of weather in MSFS including managing presets.  Of course since it is touted as the only preset you will ever need.

But the main point is that unlike MSFS presets, weather changes (smoothly) over time.

Anyway it gets 5 stars from all the reviewers including me. 👍

Note: I had to restart the sim after making the purchase.

Yup. You're not alone.

'It is better to be silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.'

I quite like it as well. Unfortunately, though, it often serves to highlight the shortcomings in the MSFS weather engine: ie. Volcanic ash clouds and unnatural/hard divisions between sky and haze.

The last few days, flying around the state of FL, has been an adventure. This new sim really excels in the default live weather department, especially when flying in turbulence. The wake effects that I experience on final, are the best that I've ever experienced in a sim. I'm having a blast!

I'd also be very interested in this weather add-on!
My problem, though, is that unfortunately I can't use SimBrief or any other ATC add-on (BATC, FSHUD, P2ATC, ...)!  It seems that none of the other well-known manufacturers (Fenix, PMDG, Leonardo, ...) will be able to handle this generated weather either....
Or am I wrong?

Some questions:

- does it create specific weather for tricky places where shear and turbulence are usual under certain weather regimes?

- how does it cope with ATC & flight planning: when I generate a simbrief flightplan it'll use rww, so, it will probably differ from the weather generated by this app(?)

- can we have the ACARS downloading the custom weather?

I can understand you having problems with these, but not Simbrief. It's only a website in essence - nothing installed on your system. You don't even need to have a Navigraoph account (I don't).

There are dozens of apps/utilities that have access to Simbrief data, but they're entirely optional.

Simbrief is the least of my worries 😉
I'm more concerned about all the other add-ons that, unfortunately, can't handle this random weather generator...
(as mentioned: ATC, Fenix, PMDG, Leonardo, ...)

I forgot to add that 90% of my weather is preset with 10% live and the app handles the transitions nicely.

Also, all my flying is in the HJET with the good ol' WT G3000.  😏

cheers

Default ATC works well with preset weather. So flight planning is a snap since you control the weather.

So I can start at KSFO with live or typical weather to take in the morning fog.  Then I know ATC will vector me in on RNAV 11 at PAKT because the app will transition to a preset with winds out of the East.

I'll have to revisit default ATC and injected traffic ...

For a good while and after FSHUD, BATC has been my companion in terms of ATC, and FSLTL for the injected AI models. Unfortunately BATC can't cope with this kind of injected weather (?)

I gave it a good workout yesterday and have some reservations myself.

Oh well 20 bucks isn't much in the flight sim world these days. 😪

Would be a good app to rent and try out.
