April 25Apr 25 Hi All! I bought a new PC (9800x3d RTX 5090) and on the ground at busy airports like LAX, it's like watching a Charlie Chaplin movie. I've dialled down airport services and airport traffic. Once I'm in the air it's as smooth as silk. What are the key settings that impact smoothness when I'm on the ground? Cheers! 9800X3D | 5080 | 32GB | 2TB NVME | Dell Ultrasharp U3415W 34" | 3440 x 1440 60Hz

I typed this in Google Search; “msfs 2024 best smoothness at busy airports taxiing” and got this AI response. YMMV. TANSTAAFL. Blue skies, -B Achieving maximum smoothness while taxiing at busy airports in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS 2024) requires optimizing for CPU performance, as the simulator is highly CPU-bound, particularly at complex airports. Key adjustments involve lowering specific settings, limiting framerates, and managing traffic levels to reduce micro-stutters. The instructions that follow are substantial and useful from my perspective as a 40+ year flight simmer. I hope this has been helpful. Edited April 25Apr 25 by btacon
April 25Apr 25 Hi gb09f, That's strange - I have the same machine, only running a 5080 instead. I've got everything on Ultra and I've never had a stutter to speak of. Last time I was ag EGLL I was laughing because it was so smooth. Have you got all the latest drivers for your video card, and all the other normal checks ?

I'd recommend watching some set up videos on YouTube because there are so many parameters that affect performance. April 26Apr 26 With hardware like that I’d first look at what’s being drawn and simulated around you on the ground rather than cruise settings.\n\nThe big hitters for me at busy hubs are AI traffic density, parked aircraft, airport workers/vehicles, and terrain/object LOD if it’s set aggressively. A heavy third party airport can also be the whole story at places like LAX.\n\nWhat I usually do is cut one thing at a time and retest at the same gate, same weather, same time of day. If the stutter disappears after reducing traffic or ground clutter, you’ve found the bucket.\n\nAlso worth checking whether you’re using a third party airport and any traffic injector, because those can change the picture a lot on the ground.

I've got BATC injecting FBW models so I will look at fine tuning these. 9800X3D | 5080 | 32GB | 2TB NVME | Dell Ultrasharp U3415W 34" | 3440 x 1440 60Hz
April 26Apr 26 No BATC here, and just JF's traffic running, so that may explain a lot. Have you thought about trying the auto fps app available here in the forum? It may help, as with your machine specs you should be able to handle pretty much anything. Worth checking out, it may be simpler than trying to play with the myriad of settings!
April 26Apr 26 Set ULTRA preset and make sure frame generation is enabled. You might have to google frame gen to enable it... make sure you're on the latest nvidia drivers Otherwise it will be under the Graphics settings, like DLSS super resolution under Anti Aliasing, then check quality. If that makes things a little fuzzy (especially glass cockpits), consider using DLSS Swapper and grab the latest DLL file which imo is much better for image clarity, performance, and stops ghosting of glass cockpits (for the most part) https://github.com/beeradmoore/dlss-swapper Or you can skip dlss swapper and do it via the NVidia App: To enable DLSS 4.5, update to the latest NVIDIA driver (591.74 or later) and use the NVIDIA app to override game settings. Navigate to Graphics > Global Settings (or specific game settings), find DLSS Override Model Presets, and set it to "Recommended" or "Latest" to activate the new L/M Transformer models.
