More heat and humidity on the way

Featured Replies

Yikes! That's pretty warm for northern Europe this time of year. 39C for northern France is crazy. We've been watching Italy, where temps will be around 35C for the next week.

It's just the opposite where I live. We're in the 25-28C range, a bit cooler than usual for mid-June.

We had a 109F yesterday. Today it cooled down to 97F. The next 5 days we are looking at 100+F days. Very comfortable for a desert rat like myself.

I've been meaning to ask, what's humidity?

Noel

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Thank you for keeping it real, Birdguy!

I live where I have always lived. It gets over 100F about 15 days a year. It is not a big deal. Cold winds and snow, uh no, that does not happen.

Well, Fielder, it's 99 degrees right now. Our temperatures for next week are forecast to be:

Sun 107

Mon 100

Tue 105

Wed 106

Thu 98

Fri 100

Sat 105

Sun 105

Mon 106

Our daytime humidity runs 10% to 20%

Our nightime temps run from the high 60s to the low 70s. Humidity around 60%

We are at an altitude of about 3600ft.

It's very comfortable for me but a lot of people think it's too hot.

We had a car show for the residents yesterday afternoon in the parking lot. It was 100+ but nobody was complaining.

Humidity, though. As we've said before, humidity is the difference. Why some from hot places come to the British Isles and suddenly get it.

Plus the fact we dont have air-conditioning in our homes, so no relief. And our homes are designed to keep us warm, not cool.

Yes, you certainly feel more miserable in hot, humid air than in hot, dry air. We lived in New Mexico for 16 years where the humidity was in the 10-30% range 90% of the time, and even 100F(38C) didn't feel too bad.

It's very humid where we live now. Almost always above 50% and typically 60-80%. Right now it's 90% relative humidity, but only 22C so not too bad.

Apparently there been a surge in homes installing air-con in the UK, just lately. Domestic ownership has doubled in the past few years.

Average relative humidity in Jersey is 81%. 75 to 85% in the UK.

Market Overview

  • Market Size: The UK air conditioning market was recently valued at $1.33 billion and is projected to expand steadily.

  • Untapped Potential: While commercial spaces are largely equipped, only about 5% of British households currently have air conditioning, leaving immense room for residential growth.

  • Top Brands: Brands like LG, Samsung, Panasonic, and Toshiba lead consumer brand awareness in the UK market.

I remember my time at NATTC, Millington, Tenn. I got there the first week in June and was there for 9 months of
training. From June till October every day was 90 degrees and 90% humidity! You even felt damp and sticky after
showering.

Trust Hollywood! Scarlett O'Harra looked very comfortable in Atlanta wearing layered dresses, carrying a sun umbrella, and occasionally shooing flies away with her handkerchief.

Even Cumbria is expected to hit 30C on Thursday.

EDIT: Those video adverts are beyond a joke 😡
