Before I say anything else, let me say that I completely agree that you can't get the image from a Quest 3 that you can with a Pimax headset. However, before I got into virtual flying I loved playing stand alone games with the Quest 3 I had at the time. I sold that to help get the Crystal Light. While the image is very good in the sim, it's too heavy, I sweat like a pig in it, and it sucks to try to play PCVR games with movement while a cable is hanging off the back of your neck.

So I went out and got another Quest 3. Set it up, still had the account with all the games I had purchased in the past, and installed them all again.

What a pleasure to play Meta games again with no wires. I can go almost anywhere in my house and play games with it without having to move or change anything. And the Bobo S3 Pro headstrap with the built in fan is awesome. It really works. Yes, for flightsim its a compromise, but for me, its perfect.

But ........ if any others of you are also using a Quest 3 for MSFS 2024, I would love to hear any tips, tricks, or anything that might help with setting it up optimally.

I am using Virtual Desktop currently, so if you are, let me know how you configure the settings.

I prefer meta PC app cabled with q3 (combined with the debug tool and oxrtoolkit) as I seem to be able to squeeze a little more detail from it with similar fps performance to VD. I prefer the look of the meta ASW over the VD spacewarp. As a low fuss option, particularly with slower PCs, i think VD might be the way to go

Until the latest sim update, I was having a good time with msfs24 and q3. Now I have a heartbeat like brief pause every second (affecting both meta cabled and wireless VD even in the menus). The other games are running great. DCS and ACEvo look and run beautifully cabled

btw - which standalone games do you enjoy? Do you play them multiplayer? I have a great time with contractors online multiplayer.

I like bowling, mini golf, table tennis, beat saber, synth riders. I like lots of other games too but those are some of my favorites. I am not familiar with the one you mentioned. I will have to look for it.

its a first person shooter but not too complicated. It has a starwars mod which I really enjoy

This is sort of on topic... I have a G2, but part of the left eye is messed up... like a graphical error or something. It's that way forever hehe. I should have returned it but never did. It's not super noticable but I do notice it.

Anyway, I'm looking at the Quest 3. But I'm a bit confused about whether or not it's actually more clear (or has a better image) than the G2. There seems to be some debate. Like maybe in the sweet spot, the G2 is slightly clearer, but the Q3 has a lot large sweet spot?

Also, I see there are three versions of the Quest 3 - which do I need for MSFS 2024? And do I need a do also buy their USB C cable?

Finally, is my 12700K, 64GB ram, and RTX 4080 good enough to power the best Q3?

I had the G2 but returned it fairly quick. I did not like the small sweet spot. I have the Quest 3 and I think your analysis is correct...the G2 is a bit clearer in the sweet spot, but overall, the Quest 3 has a much larger sweet spot.

I purchased the Quest 3 128GB version. Because I only use it for MSFS 2020/2024, it works great.

I use Virtual Desktop and it works great. I guess the only downside is that you need a dedicated router for it to work well.

I did try the USB cable, but could not get it to work well. I know others have, so it may be a good choice.

I originally used it with a 3080 with 10BGB of memory and had no problem at all running the Quest 3. So, I think your computer specs and GPU will do just fine with it.

Ryan, your comuter will run a Q3 fine.

The Quest 3S has old tech fesnel lenses. The regular Q3 has the best lenses in any VR headset, The screen on all Q3 is not the best which is why the PCL gives a better image, even with less quality of lenses. PCL uses dual QLED panels paired with Mini LED backlighting with local dimming, so the screen is better than the Meta which uses dual LCD panels which do not feature the Mini-LED backlighting or local dimming. The PCL thus has better contrast and more vibrant colors.

The lenses on the Q3 are the best and sweet spot is enormous thanks to the quality of the lenses.

The Q3 has an excellent high resolution color pass thru (I think you tap the headset to turn that on or off). You can see your controllers when it's on because it uses a quality camera on the front of the headset to produce the image. Or make the view go back again inside the plane (I think by tapping again.

PCL has tap pass through, but the image is very low quality black and white. I have a PCL. The pass through camera works by just tapping the headset.
