Waymo operates an expansive commercial ride-hailing service via its Waymo One smartphone app. The service provides over 500,000 paid rides per week and has successfully logged over 200 million fully autonomous miles.
September 5Sep 5 Impressive. But it does not improve my life. A cab with a real driver is something I would rather experience. Except for the novelty. September 5Sep 5 Another hoot would be a young man about 11 years old who wakes up at night and wants a Jumbo Jack Hamburger. He sneaks down the stairs and uses his phone to call a selfie cab and away he goes. What fun to punch the touch the screen to make the cab do strange things. September 6Sep 6 The issue was no steering wheel, brake pedals, or rear view mirrors. AI doesn't use them anyway, but a human driver overriding the AI would need them. But this is a cab, so there is no driver only passengers. The new Waymo's on the way don't have pedals or steering wheels either.

I'll bet my granddaddy wouldn't get into a Stanley Steamer either.We seem to be giving up ourselves to more and more technology from driverless cabs to AI writing our kid's homework assignments (while coming home from school in a driverless cab). Just cameras in the Tesla. I think it's related to Elon's obsession with minimal parts. I've never experienced it though, so maybe I'd change my mind if I had.
