March 28, 200818 yr Good Day,Chatter Files and Adding Chatter Files......It does not seem that I am hearing all of the chatter that I should as I fly between areas although ATC Centers all seem to be in the right location. I have checked to make sure AI chatter and Pre-Recorded Chatter boxes are selected. I would also like to add some additional pre-recorded chatter but need the following question answered before proceeding further in case I have to reinstall the program......Page 136 of the Radar Contact V4 manual states that there is a file in the main Radar Contact folder called
March 28, 200818 yr z4.csv relates the winwood folder for the controllers. If you open it up in a text editor (do not use Excel or attempt to save it) you'll see the first field is 102 for Barcelona CTRLZ (control zone. Other zones are expressed as FIR for flight information region.) in field 2. If you go to Winwood folder 102 and open it, one of the .txt files is called Spain as I recall and the other Barcelona FIR and Spain.txt.The numeric fields I believe have to do with boundaries in terms of coordinates. There should be 398 folders in winwood. Some of the numerics are pilots and others controllers. You will only hear AI pilots and controllers on your frequency. Random prerecorded chatter does not depend on AI traffic but AI chatter does. Interact with AI should also be checked for RC control of AI in certain areas of the flight phase. Also, go to the RC Voices page and make sure you have proper selections. There also should be in the scripts folder about 1800 in the pilot scripts folder and 1900 in the controller scripts folder.Originally for those who incrementally upgraded from 4.1 to 4.2 then 4.3 had to optionally download additional voices. If you started with 4.3 on CD you should have all of them.
March 29, 200818 yr Author Ron,Thanks for quick reply. My Winwood and script folders all contain the files you mentioned. I also have selected all the voices and insured that all the proper boxes have been checked......Again..... The question is do I have a problem since I do not have a file called "Airspace" as mentioned on page 136 of the manual. For once trying to follow directions and read the documentation. I am attempting to add pre-recorded chatter files and want to do it correctly..... I installed from the V4.3 CD.... Also I assume that any recorded chatter in the correct wav format can be used if installed correctly....Thanks again,JayDub
March 30, 200818 yr I checked my installation. With the exception of the name of the area file in the documentation, all else appears correct. If you open each country folder you will may find a number of empty sub-folders labled gnd, twr, atc1, etc. In each folder there is a text file describing the use and file naming convention for each. I believe the documentation regarding this part is mostly correct. The folders are arranged similarly in the numbered winwood folders starting at 102. In the data folder, file z4.csv replaces the Airspace file in the main folder. Make a copy of it somewhere and open that copy in winword, column one gives you the number of the folder for the area described in column two. For example:102 BARCELONA CTLZ102 BARCELONA CTLZ103 PARIS CTZ103 PARIS CTZ104 ALGER FIR104 ALGER FIRshows Barcelona related to winwood folder 102. Under this are several folders. If you open the twr folder and open for instruction twr files.txt, the instructions read:place tower chatter wav files in this folder, with the file name in the format twrn.wav, twrnn.wav, where n is 1-9, and nn is 10-99. example: twr3.wav, twr43.wav.they must be sequential, starting with 1--------------------The documentation Bob wrote explains the difference between the numbered folders and country folders. It also states if you find no .wav files in them they are for you to use. If you do not place .wav files in them, then RC will use the winwood folder named by the included text file such as $spain.txt refers to the spain winwood folder. Notice the spain winwood folder for twr has .wavs in it. These are what will be used for prerecorded chatter. If there is nothing there, then RC will generate synthetic prerecorded chatter.Play a few of the .wav files with Media Player to see what these canned .wavs sound like. Finally, please note that this entire procedure refers to prerecorded chatter only, not if you want to use your own voice as pilot or copilot. That can be done but the structure is entirely different and must be followed exactly. If this is what you require then different techniques and instructions must be followed. A pilot requires almost 1800 .wav phrases to be recorded. For example, open winwood 55. Each .wav file has a title of a word or phrase. If you play that .wav the audio will follow the title. These are the files called for by RC script files that direct the concatenation of these phrases to be spoken. There are folders for pilots and controllers. You would have to pick a pilot folder for the country of your choice, replace all those .wav files, look at the .txt file describing the voice, and then choose that voice on the RC voices tab in setup. If you try this, be sure to back up the entire folder outside of RC somewhere. Do not mess with any file in the scripts folder. In summary, as stated before, data file z4.csv replaces the Airspace file mentgioned in the documentation. Now I have never done this, but by examining what is there it appears to be the correct procedure.
March 30, 200818 yr When a fly in Spain I hear spanish radio chatter.- As I live in Argentina, how can I manage to hear in my region that same chatter as in Spain ?.-Thanks Jorge Soldano

March 31, 200818 yr >look in the z4.csv file, with NOTEPAD, NOT excel>>tell me what centers comprise argentina>>jdThese are Argentina centers: 343, 345, 350, 355, 356.-These are other Latin America centers in which spanish chatter will be welcome: 306, 328, 330, 334, 336, 338, 339, 341, 344, 354, 358, 359.-Thanks Jorge Soldano
March 31, 200818 yr In each of the folders above that you listed where you want Spanish change the country file name to XX$name.txh (just a a place holder in case you want to put it back) and add to it $spain.txt as an empty .txt file. As an example in 343 change $argentina.txt file name to XX$argentina.txh and create the empty text file named $spain.txt with Notepad and save it.There are no wavs in the Argentina winwood folder but there are in Spain.See how that works for you.

April 5, 200818 yr In your example below the number 343 associates MENDOZA FIR with Winwood folder 343. From the RC home folder open the Winwood folder. In that folder open folder 343. April 7, 200818 yr In winwood folder 356 just put in a new blank saved $spain.txt or copy/paste it from another folder to save on typing.Since you can direct any winwood folder to other folders with .wav files I think you would be wasting a lot of space copying .wav files from one to another. There is also less chance of messing things up.
May 17, 201412 yr I have just purchased the ATC Ambience program from SimMarket but there are no chatter files already installed in it as was alluded to - or at least if there is I can't activate them. Also in the ReadMe that comes with the program it is mentioned that AVSIM has plenty of chatter files (there is also a link to www.flightsimsoftware.uk that leads to a blank "under construction" webpage and nothing else - it is supposed to hold additional wav. files for the ATC Ambience program). So if AVSIM have files for the ATC Ambience program could someone point me to their location please. I have spent an hour searching this morning but can't find anything. Thanks in advance, John Gibson
