  1. Well, guess what? We shifted house the last week and while opening carton boxes to arrange things in my study, I found the original Looking Glass boxes for FU2 and FU3, including map, keyboard shortcuts card, cd's, and the both original manuals! I had looked everywhere for the FU2 manual, couldn't find, and now it is in my hand, so new it is beautiful. I kissed my wife for that, even though she couldn't understand what is all that excitement about! Not only that, but guess again what? I found the computer that has the 3dfx Voodoo 5 5500 AGP in it!! I powered it up to see if it was still running and it was. I took it to a shop to clean it up (almost 5-8 years old I think) and reformat it. Now I am running FU3+FU2 woth a Voodoo 5. It took me some time to find the 3dfx Tools with which I can apply AA, and now the sim is as beautiful as it ever was. Sky so clean, night lights so stable. Spent hours just flying around in Seattle and San Francisco areas, admiring the crisp textures. Can't believe the Voodoo 5 is still working like a charm after what, ten years?! Fingers crossed. The motherboard is AMD Athlon 1.6 Ghz, 512 MB. I will try to find a faster motherboard but doubt it will have sockets suitable for the Voodoo AGP. Anyway I am having 12-14 flyable rates in heavy weather. Happy FU3'ing...
  2. Hello Lars and Dave, yes I am the bush man :). Thank you both for your answers. I have already gone through the pinned thread about the rects. Thanks to Hans and others who have figured this out. I can now apply full AA with perfect panels. I am still having the problem of banding in the sky and large jaggies in overcast clouds. Tried several cfg settings without success. Reduced them somewhat but they are still there and ruining a bit the environment. Any ideas? Kind regards
  3. Well, even though I have a fantastic setup for FSX with the most realistic scenery (Orbx) and a wonderful assortment of airplanes, here I am again setting up FU3 with the never-ending advances in hardware! I installed FU3 with FU2 scenery straight from Sold-Out disks. It all went perfectly on my system (i7 965, GTX 580, Win 7 64) The sim is running fine. I am still struggling with AA and somewhat blocky sky haze. AA is corrupting the panels. I tried different settings for the blocky haze in the cfg file without success. Any help is appreciated. Nice to be back in my home turf!
  4. There is another button on the toolbar that says something like " Add application to this profile". Just browse to your fsx.exe location and the name of the program will appear below the name of the profile. Of course Apply Changes when you are done.
  5. I have both the C185 and the Bonanza and I just love them! I wish to re-install the planes to ensure I have the latest versions. Can the downloads be run over the existing installations or better to uninstall first? Thanks for any help
  6. Jigsaw, fantastic video :(. Thanks for sharing it
  7. Nice shot! Are you using REX2, Bill? if so, which cloud number is it please?
  8. Very charming airfield and surrounds! Great work, Bill.
  9. I have just had three short flights in Washington state, around Everett, Arlington and Tacoma, and the only thing that I can say is that: forget the pre-release screenshots you have seen; they didn't do PNW full justice. When you fly over the scenery you will really appreciate the beauty of it. The autogen buildings are stunning, the trees are lovely, the highways, the textures, the airfields,... beautiful. And frames are surprisingly good! This is a beloved area for me because it was the turf of Flight Unlimited 3. So thank you Orbx for a gem of a scenery :(
  10. Yep, also here, no problem whatsoever.
  11. It works fine on my win 7 64 ultimate setup. The only problem I have seen is what is mentioned above, the VC is invisible sometimes after I load the commander after another plane. Otherwise great addon.
  12. I got it recently, and I like it a lot. Panel is outstanding. Overall very impressive.
  13. Hi, Alex. I downloaded UT2_SP1.exe, ran it and installed it very smoothly. Started the app, checked the version 2.04. I haven't had the time yet to check the improvements.
  14. Are we going to have to qualify our posts with such statements from now on if we are enthusiastic about a product :( ?
  15. I used to fly almost exclusively in Alaska and British Columbia. Never even thought of checking out Australia. After I have seen Orbx work, now I rarely fly outside Australia :( I have come to learn Australian towns and cities: Aeropelican, Cessnock, Caloundra, Tamworth because right now such names are at the centre of the very best FSX scenery design. Take a flight around Tamworth airfield and admire the 7-cm details in the textures. I never get tired of looking at them. So even though now you don't know the Oz land, do yourself a favor and start learning about it if you want to see FSX at its best.
  16. I'll put it this way: I won't fly anywhere in FSX without FTX :( . On my recently set-up Windows 7 RTM machine, after I installed FSX + Acceleration, I took a flight with no addons; pure defaults. I couldn't believe this is our beloved flightsim! It was awful. The machine now is exclusively set up for all Orbx FTX regions and airfields with REX2 and UT2. This is flightsimming at its best IMHO. I would advise folks not to try FTX, for once they have tried it, they will become addicted and won't want to fly elsewhere! If only Alaska would get the FTX touch...
  17. The only way I could get rid of micro stutters is by going back to driver 182.5. Have you tried those?
  18. Thanks for the quick response, Jim!Tried that already, same message.Naji
  19. I am looking forward to flying with ASA. Need some help on installation.I have FSX+Acceleration and ASX installed on a Vista machine. Purchased the ASX/ASA upgrade. When setup is run, it says ASX must be installed. ASX is listed in Control Panel/ Programs and Features, and works fine.Appreciate the help.Naji
  20. Thanks both for the replies.Happy simming in FU3 skies!
  21. I am very happy that FU3 (plus FU2 scenery plus the patch) installed flawlessly on my Vista 32 system. I am running the sim at full settings plus 16x AA and 16x aniso. The only problem I had was with the 2D panel getting garbled with the AA setting; I quickly found the solution by disabling the AA-Gamma Correction setting on the nvidia control panel. Now FU3 is running perfect :( Now with the tedious work of adding back addons! Any help on the absolute necessities?Even though my FSX setup is outstanding, especially with the latest Orbx sceneries and Carenado planes, flying in FU3 has still this indescribable charm: the sound of the Cessna, the ATC, the rain..Anyway, glad to be back in FU3 skies.
  22. Hey, thanks Hans; appreciate the install hint. I'll try first the disks; if not, I'll follow your suggestion.FlyInRain :)
  23. Very good to see you back, Bob! Wish you all the best in your new place.Even though FSX is oustanding, especially with certain addons, I am now planning to install FU3 on my Vista machine, for nostalgia sake and for the rain effects ;-). FSX still hasn't gotten the rain right! Hope FU3 will run OK on Vista.Best regards to all FU3'ers :-wave
  24. I myself use the msconfig of winXP. I run it and disable as follows to make my machine lean:1. I disable All on the startup tab.2. on the services tab, I hide all Microsoft Services and disable the rest.3. I disable all on the win.ini and system.ini tabs4. I restartWhen you want to go back to normal, run msconfig again and choose normal startup.
  25. Tim, defragment your drives after installation.
