  1. You have a valid point Larry!
  2. Oh yes Geof,Of course your Deb panel is a definite winner in sterographic 3D as well as the plane. Freeware to boot which makes it doubly sweet.Thank you and James very much I do enjoy and fly this aircraft.Great dilemma looming on the horizon however. There just is not enough time to fly all the magnificent aircraft, both freeware and payware. As a point of intrest, if the weather cooperates, this Sunday I will finally get my flight review DONE.
  3. It is a very nice panel. (The Dakota panel). Not to start a flame war, but as I use the Steve Small's FDEs,(which he gave as freeware), I cannot in all consciousness buy Carenados products.
  4. The DreamFleet Archer II in my opinion has the most realistic panel in 3D sterograhics that currently exist. Not only that, it has in my estimation, the best flight dynamics of any plane that is currently on the market. The Cardinal 177 from the same people is also very nice, looking and flying. But there is something abut that Archer!!!!!The large planes I do not like in 3D. the small single engine GA craft are suburb, but on my 19" monitor the twin engine panels are just too large to fit well in 3D. I fly these planes in 2D only, and find I am much more comfortable with them. Of course I don't fly twins and larger much. Can't tear myself away from the single engine land type.Of course as has been stated in earlier posts, the SF-260, absolutely excellent. I assume the flight model is as good or better than the Archer, but having never flown that plane in real life, and I have the Archer, I cannot verify the actual flight model, other than to say, it feels right.
  5. Hello Ed,I doubt that your black screen is a 3082 driver problem. I have used the 3082 pair since they were first available, and they have worked nearly flawlessly.I am now however using the 3087 pair, as nVidia has the 3087 Stero Driver for download at their website. The 3087 reference drivers are not yet WHQL certified, however they work as well as the 3082 do, I have used both of these sets for quite a while now, and cannot detect any real difference in them. They both work very well. I have tried the 40xx Stero drivers, but on my system they work terribly. Both the 40xx and the newer 4109 Stero Drivers from Russia. Niether one of these drivers work well for me. The Russian Stero Drivers, (a 20 Megabyte download), do come with some really nice real world aircraft pictures, in jps format, which when viewed with the stero imager are quite nice. Some people say they have gotten good results with these newer drivers and the 40 series reference drivers, but unfortunately that has not been my experience. I cannot reccomend the 40whatever Stero Drivers.Keith brings up a good point about the batteries. I have had my wireless glasses since Sept 11, 2001 and have not changed the batteries yet. Perhaps I should get fresher batteries, but so far I have not had any trouble with them. I do get an occassional flashing if I am on the ground, but once I am in the air, I never get flashing. It seems to me the flashing I get on the ground is due to the concrete turning to grass. The flashing is at the same frequencdy as the above mentioned phenomena.Glad to hear you all are having good luck with the glasses. If we all keep working and talking, we should get even better results in the future.Good Luck to all,
  6. I use the E-Dimensional glasses on a 19" monitor, at 1280x960x32 I get a 85 Hz refresh rate. This is fast enough to keep me from getting any flickering. In 3D I usually run at 1024x768 to get 120 Hz refresh rate. Using 3D I find that the lower resolution is not objectionable at all. At 1024x768, I get the feeling that the resolution is greater than it is at 1280x960. Anything slower than 85 Hz lets the flickering be noticable, but at 85 Hz I cannot see any flickering at all.Sterographic 3D is amazing to me, the immersion factor is greatly enhanced, and the sense of altitude is unbelivable. After using it for a year and a half, I couldn't do without it. One of the greatest addons that I have added for the flightsimming experience.
  7. With the 4109 drivers the contro panel has changed. The Stero Driver control panel has been placed inside the control panel of the regular video driver. You must be using the 40xx Stero Drivers, and after installing these Stero Drivers, they will show up as the 3087 series of Stero Drivers. Now open the control panel for your Video driver the Ti4200, using the side panel control. The Stero Drivers will be listed near the top, highlight these and they will open the Stero Control Panel. Just look carefully around and yo will figure things out. Everything is still there, just in a different palce than we are accustomed to.:)I still use the 3087 set of drivers as the 40xx series are for me not as stable. Having said that, trying different things is the fun of computing, is it not?
  8. Howdy Red Honda,I am no Guru by any stretch of the imagination, but the Lights referred to on the hardware page of FS2k2, is a setting that affects your video card. It does not refer to the lights on your airplane except indirectly. For some of the more complex 3rd party aircraft, (mostly payware probably), the Lights should be set to at least a level 7 for all the bells and whistles, (and lighting systems of theses craft), to work properly. I leave mine set at 8. Perhaps a real Guru will come on and enlighten us further. I for one always look forward to that eventuality to occur. :D
  9. Howdy Fox,It sounds as if you are not using the Stero Drivers. If You have an nVidia card do not use the Wicked 3D drivers that come on the CD with the E-D glasses. You need to use the nVidia Stero drivers in conjunction with the regular video drivers. Or in other words if you are using the 3082 video drivers you should also download the 3082 Stero Drivers. If you are using the 3087 video drivers then use the 3087 Stero Drivers. The 3082 drivers and Stero Drivers may be downloaded from the E-D web page and the 3087 set may be downloaded from nVidia web page. Both of these pages are so well know that I will not waste space linking them here. The way to tell which version number you have, is to right click the desktop, click Properties, and,(for WinMe), click Settings then Advanced then the tab for your video card. At the bottom of the page for the video properties box is an area that lists all the drivers file names. It will list something on this order for the 3087 drivers I am currently using.nvdisp.drv Display driver 4.13.3087To find the version number look at the 4 least significant numbers or in this case the 3087, this tells you I am using the 30.87 drivers. There will be several entries here, about 13 Now scroll down near the bottom, and if you have the nVidia Stero Drivers installed you will see an entry similar to the below. This entry will probably be abut the 14th entry listed.nvstercp.dll Stero Display Properties Extens... 6.13.10.3087This is the first file for the Stero Drivers.Again the 4 least significant numbers or the 3087 tells me I am indeed using the 30.87 Stero Drivers. If you download the 40xx series of Stero Drivers, to use with the 40.. and up series of video drivers, they will still tell you they are the 3087 Stero Drivers. These are the 3087 Stero Drivers that have been placed in a 40.xx wrapper to force them to work with the 40 and up series of drivers. I have found on my system that the 40 series do not work as well as the 3082 and 3087 drivers and Stero Drivers, others have said they work with their system, your milage may vary.Turn of T&L in the flight sim hardware box, and things on the ground will stay put for you. Try different resolutions, I find that 1024x768x32 work the best on my 19" monitor. I can get higher resolutions to work, but stero gets crankier the higher I go in resolution. at the above stated resolution I get a refrsh rate of 120, which is ideal. There has been quite a few discussions, and some good information to help people get aquainted with 3D Stero, My particular thanks to Alex and Rex in this regard.Watch and search the forum for more info, and if and when you find something of intrest be sure and let the rest of us know. :)Hope this helpsGood Luck,
  10. I have the wireless E-Dimensional glasses, and they are large enugh to fit over my glasses OK.
  11. I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago for my BFR,(Flight Review),I flew the area northwest of Oklahoma City in the simulator with special emphasis on F28,(ElReno). On the way to El Reno out of Wiley Post, the CFI had ragged on me a bit for not seeing traffic, when he says, "do you see El Reno Airport"? I said,"no you can't see it from here, but when we fly over the road that bends back to the right we will see it, if we look left". "I thought you hadn't flown here before", he says. Sure enough, as I came abreast of the bend in Interstate 40 I turned left gently, looked left forward and there it was. I never told him I had flown this in FS2k2 with 10 mile visibility setting. He still wonders how i found the strip so easily. :D In ProPilot days I won a VFR contest by flying the route from Grand Prairie TX to San Saba Tx. and Back to GPM via Waco Tx. We had to fly that with only a compass, stopwatch. and a sectional. There was a CFI from the FBO flying with you to make sure you didn't use any electronic navigational aids. The person that came the closest to flying the route in the estimated time that you gave before starting the flight was the winner, assuming you didn't get lost. :) I won 10% of anything the FBO sold for one year. This included flight time. I flew this route in Pro Pilot before flying it for real. Turned out quite nicely.
  12. Fortunately for me I have never had these lines. I wonder though if these are related to the Transform and Lighting problem? Do you all have T&L checked in the hardware dialogue box? If you per chance do have T&L checked, uncheck it, that will improve your object placement on the ground and prevent objects appearing doubled and seperated. Another thing, if you have disabled vertical-sync, enable it. In fact I would change it from Auto, to Always On. Vertical-Sync should be on always for Stero. Other than that I don't know of anything else to try other than as has already been suggested to change your resolution. I doubt that is the cause however, I have run Stero in 1600x1200x32 without these artifacts. Of course at this resolution I only have a refresh rate of 75, so flickering is apparent. That is why I run in 1024x768, for the faster refresh rate. I can get a refresh rate of 96 hz at 1280x960 and not see a flicker with my old eyes, but I feel better at a 120 hz refresh rate. Psychological only, I am sure. :)Let us know if any of the above mentioned things help or hurt, whichever the case. Perhaps Alex, or Ray will come on in a day or two and straighten us all out. :-lol
  13. I have installed DirectX 9 with WinMe and have not lost my buttons on my CH flightSim Yoke(USB). FS yoke works just as it always has. I only point this out as your problem may not be DirectX related. If you have WinMe,(oops I see you have WinXP), still, you should be able to go back to an earlier restore point. I have tried this on my machine just to see if it would restore DirectX 8.2 and it worked flawlessly. Of course that does not mean that System Restore will work flawlessly every time. One other time I lost the entire operating system doing a System Restore. Had to go the route of a recovery disk.
  14. Howdy Bob,Please allow me to heartily thank you for the Long EZ. I have long wanted one, as this is a dream machine for me. I am a sucker for canards! :-lolIf you come up with a virtual cockpit, this would be a COMPLETE joy for me, as I fly with the E Dimensional 3D glasses a lot. HINT,Hint, and not to subtley I might add. :)
  15. Any thing from FSD is good, some of the best. Also anything from DreamFleet is also some of the best.RealAir Simulations, at least as good and maybe??????????:)
  16. :DI must confess, I don't actually read the whole thing, manual that is.I do make an attempt to skim it though, and if I have a problem, I usually skim to that section. I should have put more smilies in my reply to Bob though, as it was intended, tongue in cheek sort of thing. :-lol
  17. I have a framerate decrease, but not that severe. I hav a P4 1.4 Ghz HP machine, with a GeForce4ti4600 card. I usually get an average of 25 fps without stero. With Stero I get an average of 15fps which I have locked my frame rates at. In stero that is acceptable for me. I keep my Terrain Mesh at about 60% as I can't tell any difference in the visual quality of mesh at any higher rate, it just kills my frame rates at a higher percentage. I keep all my water settings off,(all the way left), flying out of Oklahoma City, I don't have that much water any way, and with water off it helps immensly. Sometimes I turn it back on if I am flying to Catalina for instance. :) I keep my visibility down to 20 mi using FSUIPC. Also I keep the visibility slider to minimum, (60 miles), this helps a lot on framerates, and makes it more realistic anyway. I fly mostly VFR GA and I seldom get more than 10 miles visibility in my area in real life anyway. One just has to experiment to get the proper balance of framerates versus how it looks. There is no one setting for everyone. I like a lot of scenery, but I have found what I can live without, and keep the sim that way. I do keep my Autogen fairly high, but not all the way to the right, as the city just doesn't look complete without quite a bit of Autogen detail. Autogen is a frame rate killer though, no question.Again let me suggest turning your Mesh detail down, I know we love that mesh, but it is a killer, frame rate wise. I have found that Stero enhances the scenery quite a bit, so I can live with some of the sliders turned down about half way.Keep working with the glasses and you will find the settings that make you happy, and isn't this continual tweaking about half the fun anyway. :D Finally I did indeed get the 40xx Stero Drivers working with the 40 series drivers, but I had a large frame rate hit with these, I went to about 10 fps using the 40xx Stero Drivers and the 4071 and I also tried the 4180 drivers. I quickly went back to the 3087 Stero Drivers and the 3087 nVidia reference drivers. These work well for me, and so do the 3082 pair. I like either one, and I think I will stay with these until nVidia themselves put up newer drivers on their website. They do have the 3087 Stero Drivers on their website, though they are not WHQL certified as of yet.
  18. On my setup I have set PowerStrip for the resolution I want and then leave it running in my tray. That way if I change resolutions and then come back to my original resolution PowerStrip will run the refresh rate automatically. I have to keep PowerStrip running though and not close it. Be sure that you have saved the changed refresh rate in PowerStrip after getting the fastest rate you can without your monitor going blank. Starting your glaasses up should not make the refresh rate change, it doesn't on my setup anyway. Actually if your Stero Properties, Stero Setup and Test page gives you a 100hz refresh rate at 1024x768, and you get the test running and stero is working, then if you save that in the Stero Properties page you shouldn't have to worry about PowerStrip anyway. If you have saved that setting in Stero Properties when you start up FS2k2 and then Hit CTRL+F2 you should get a 100 hz refresh rate. Look at the double image without your glasses on, if there is very little flicker to no flicker at all the refresh rate is what it is supposed to be. Now put on your glasses, If you have Stero and very little to no flicker everything shuld be ok. Be aware if now you look at your refresh rate by bringing a box up on your screen that shows your monitor controls and the refresh rate, that will kill Stero for you. At that point change the resolution within FS2k to get your stero back.Once in a while I do get a very low refresh rate, if that happens I sometimes have to reboot the computer then kill of extra background apps using EndItAll, and then start fresh. Should do this anyway at the start of a FS episode.Hope you get this sorted out, I have not had any of the problems with PowerStrip.
  19. Howdy Baz,Guru3D has some SteroDrivers that are listed as 40xx Stero Drivers. They appear to be the 3087 stero Drivers however. You might want to try, these or the 3087 Stero Drivers with your 40 series regular drivers. Personally I have not been successful with anything higher than the 30.87 set of drivers. Be aware that the Stero Properties using the 40xx series dialogue box is in a different place than they are under the 30xx series drivers. They are found within the Display adapter box itself, i.e. on my system they are found in the tab for the GeForce4ti4600.I have changed the HotKey assignment in the Stero Drivers Advanced properties box. I have changed all of the HotKeys using the "ALT", key to the "Shift", key. They shouldn't conflict with the FS2k2 assignments that way.
  20. All you have to do ............read the manual!!!!!!!!!!
  21. I don't have a clue as to why your ailerons would freeze using the glasses in 3D. Fortunately I have never had a control problem using the glasses. The only thing I could suggest, is to perhaps, increase your aileron senstiviity a bit and see if that helps. Is any of the other control surfaces affected? Make sure that you haven't accidently hit the "K", key and turned the joystick/yoke off. Other than that, I am bewildered. If you or someone else finds a solution, be sure to post it, as one never knows when the same kind of plroblem may plague us.Good Luck,
  22. Thanks Geof,Those are some really nice pictures particularly the first one. Looks like coming onto a carrier deck doesn't it?This is the feeling or the view birds have all the time, they of course are the best pilots of all. :)PS: Did you come in a bit higher and a little hotter than normal? :-eek
  23. Howdy Keith,Edited to correct a link:Regarding the refresh rate. The Stero Display Properties will only allow you to set and save at the highest rate that your monitor INF file allows. this is OK however, most modern monitors will go beyond the default refresh rate set by your INF file. To force a higher rate, you need a 3rd party application, such as PowerStrip a shareware program, http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ Or HzTool a freeware monitor refresh tool, http://hem.spray.se/doxx/ PowerStrip is the best in my opinion. These tools will allow you to force as high a refresh rate as your monitor can handle. My 19" HP monitor for instance, at a resolution of 1280x960, will default to 85 hz. I can force a refresh rate of 96 hz at that resolution, and get away from any flickers. At 1024x768 my monitor defaults again to 85hz, but I can force a refresh rate of 120hz, and get flicker free stero 3D. At 85hz I can detect a bit of flicker, at 100hz I cannot see any flicker at all, and I try to run at 120hz most of the time. For the stero seperation, I can only suggest staying at 22% untill you get used to the effect. Sometimes it takes a bit of getting used to for our brains to assimalate what we are seeing. If you are seeing double lines or double images try changing your resolution and see if that will force stero to start. Sometimes stero will get a bit cranky about starting up, I have found that changing the resolution within FS2k2 will usually persuade it to start up. If you are having trouble getting the test patterns to start up in the Stero Properties box, change first to a lower refresh rate and try that, then work your refresh rate up until you find the highest rate your system can handle. For Gamma, I set mine in the stero properties box to 1.30 to 1.40 somewhere in that neighborhood should get you close to a good contrast. Generally within the flight sim itself, only one or two taps on CTRL+G will get you to where you want without washing out. Incidentaly, I have changed the hotkey for Gamma decrease to, SHIFT+G, as the default hotkey, ALT+G, will not work within FS2k2 itself. The ALT key brings up the menubar in fullscreen, so I use the Shift key instead. SHIFT+G is not a default hotkey in FS2k2, so that works well.Always fly with your panel lights on, that helps a lot in reading your instruments. Of course some virtual cockpits are much easier to read than others. I love the virtual cockpits in the GA aircraft I usually fly,(Cessnas Archers, Cardinals SF260 etc.), in the heavy iron, which I don't fly much, I use the 2D panels and forgo 3D stero. In my opinion the 3D sterographic holographic effect is the most amazing computer addon that I have seen to date. The learning cycle is there of course, the frustration factor is present, particularly at the beginning, but as you learn how to tweak your indvidual system to the software, it gets better and better, at any rate that is my experience. I have had my glasses for about a year and a half, at the start I had to find drivers that would work with my nVidia G2 64/Pro board, that was a pain, but I overcame it :) I now have a geForce4ti4600 which does work better but again I am restricted to the drivers that will work with my system. Those drivers are the 30.82 pair or the 30.87 pair. I for the life of me, cannot get any drivers in the 40xx series or above to work for me. Actually that doesn't upset me too much as I have never seen a newer driver do much better than any of the older ones anyway. :D If that makes sense?
  24. On my 19" monitor, I like 1280x960x32. I stay with the 1.33:1 ratio so the round gauges will look round. At the above resolution, I get an 85hz refresh rate. If I am using the E-Dimensional 3D glasses I use 1024x768x32 so I can have a 100hz refresh rate. I don't see much difference in the framerates regardless of the resolution. The higher resolutions look slightly crisper, but I can hardly tell a difference above 1280x960 resolution.
  25. Let me add a bit more to this post. You must set up your stero drivers from the control panel before using them. Did you do this?Right click an empty spot on your desktop, click properties, go to SettingsAdvanced, then click the Stero Properties tab. Select Enabled or Enabled by HotKey. Check Page Flipped in the radio button. Leave for now Stero Seperation at 30%, click Medical Test Image. Now wheather you can see the test image or not hit escape and then click yes to the dialogue box that comes up. Now Hit the Apply button. Click Stero Setup and Test. If Monitor size is not already selected, set it to your monitor size. Your first resolution is 640x480 set your refresh rate up to around 100 to 120hz, then click Launch TestApplication. If you get stero, go back and set the refresh rate up one more notch, and try the test at that resolution. Keep trying until you get the fastest refresh rate, then, BE SURE AND SAVE THAT SETTING. Do the same for each resolution, finding the fastest refresh rate that your monitor can handle, then save that setting. You must do this for all of the 16 bit pixels,(Notice that 16 and 32 bit pixels are at the very top of the box), then do the same for each resolution in the 32 bit pixel range. If you do this and be sure and save the setting at the fastes refresh rate that your monitor is capable of you shouldn't have much trouble. Admittedly Stero is a bit cranky about starting from time to time, but again it is worth the trouble.
