  1. Ok. Thanks, Bruce.I did try to do a "repair" from the DVD. But all I got was an error message.I appreciate your response.Dewey
  2. Yes, that's true. But if a file is changed or corrupted somehow I'm not sure how to get it back. Thanks for the response.Dewey
  3. The Grumman Goose suddenly disappeared from the aircraft menu in FSX. Its folder is still in the aircraft folder and appears to have the appropriate files. But I suppose one or more of them has become corrupted somehow. Is there a way to install just one aircraft from my FSX CD?Thanks.Dewey

Remember how you could settle into an overcast in those volumetric clouds and really be socked in completely? And remember how breathtaking it was to break out on top of those clouds into a blue sky and look down on the overcast? I haven't seen clouds as real as those before or since. Heck, I haven't even seen a real overcast. Maybe someday.Dewey
  5. >Dennis, I think you're not considering that Aces and>Microsoft are not small add-on vendors. This isn't the case of 2 guys in a basement, where>they have to choose to either work on a service pack or build>the new product. >>I also think that at some point, "fixes" to both real and>perceived problems in FSX can be better addressed with a>larger market share, and some updates may even be embedded in>new products (a la LOMAC). A much better business case can>probably be made to spend more resources on service packs,>when you have a broader customer and revenue base. You said, "I also think that at some point, "fixes" to both real and>perceived problems in FSX can be better addressed with a>larger market share". I'm wondering how market share is an issue when Microsoft Flight Simulator is virtually the only flight simulator available? I realize there is X Plane. But my sense is that they are not in direct competition with MS Flight Simulator. If you simply meant that they might increase the number of orders for FSX, rather than take a particular "market share" away from someone else, then your comments make sense to me.Dewey
  6. If you do a Control D twice it will turn off the Direction Hold, which I think you are mistaking for a wing leveler, and will leave Alt Hold activated. From that point you can toggle Direction Hold on and off with Control D.
  7. Having 3 wives is going to be hard to X-Plane to the judge.Dewey
  8. I just downloaded and installed the patch from Carenado which enables us to operate any of their aircraft in FSX. I can now fly the Cessna 206 in FSX. It was quick, easy, and free.Nice job, Carenado! Thanks!Dewey
  9. Oops. Sorry. Typo. I meant to say "go to the MAIN section and put it in there as the first line of that section".
  10. No, it isn't there. Go to the [MAIN] section and put it as the first line in that section.dewey
  11. Yes, I found it there right after I posted my question. Thanks for the response!dewey
  12. Where is fsx.cfg? I did a search and didn't come up with it.Thanks!dewey

  14. What is the general opinion as to which video card is best for FSX?Thanks.Dewey
  15. Have you noticed we haven't seen any "faster" CPU's for some time now? The clock speed wars seem to have run their course, at least for the time being. In fact, many of the first line computers I'm seeing advertised now are actually slower than my 2 year old machine.Besides, the buss is still a bottleneck even with higher clock speeds. There are other considerations as well besides just clock speed.Still, it's curious that both Intel and AMD have backed out of that race right now and seem to be focusing on dual core technology. Maybe that's because the computer-buying public is so excited about it.It will be interesting to see what they pick next to take market share from one another.Dewey
  16. I continue to experiment with slider settings, but so far none of them have affected the flooded terrain.Yes, I do have the latest drivers. Thanks for responding with these ideas, though.Dewey
  17. Thank you, Oyvind. I look forward to not hearing from you.Dewey
  18. No problem, Brian. No offense taken.Have a great day.Dewey
  19. Yes. That would be foolish. That's why I didn't suggest such a thing.Dewey
  20. Yes, there is a lot of info there, Ian. Thanks. But so far it seems my experience with the flooded terrain is unique. I may have to download the complete demo again and reinstall it just to be sure that isn't the problem. I was just hoping that others had experienced the same thing and perhaps had a "fix" for it. You know, it's the old "with all this horse manure, there has to be a pony in here somehwere" kind of attitude. Thanks for responding.Dewey
  21. Thank you for the suggestion, John, but I have already done that. It's usually among the first things to try after tweaking settings in FS.Dewey
  22. Tweak my "expectations"? Are you kidding me? The entire terrain submerged in water and you're suggesting I tweak my expectations? What kind of utter foolishness is that?Dewey

  24. Ooops! Sorry. I just noticed that there is a separate forum for FSX posts. My bad. Go ahead and move my previous post.Dewey
  25. I downloaded the FSX demo and ran it. I'm not at all impressed. A Baron was taking off in the first sequence and it turned into a slide show - looong pauses, and constant stutters. Then everything went under water - buildings, planes, runways, everything was under water. A 747 was taking off in water up to the wings.I flew a demo flight. Graphics were not as awesome as I had hoped. Then I closed that flight and tried to launch another one. It got to 98% loading objects and scenery and then locked up. I had to shut down the demo and launch it again.I flew another flight in a heavy jet. It had no 2D cockpit and the virtual cockpit was primitive looking by today's standards. The view made it appear that you were sitting almost against the panel. When moving the view back, the gauges became unreadable. My computer is not the finest, smoking gaming computer in the world, but it isn't a slug, either. It's a 3.2 Ghz with 2 gb of RAM and an ATI Radeon 9800 XT with 256 mb of DDR RAM. So I can't understand the slide show with the Baron taking off. There wasn't that much other scenery in view to cause it to pause and stutter. And I don't understand the terrain suddenly going underwater. Is my experience with this demo different from others? Tell me about yours so I'll have some kind of reasonable basis to judge FSX and my system capabilities.Thanks.Dewey
