  1. Hi Rick Maybe I can add my little bit here as I am an "old timer" too - in terms of age as well as the number of years I have been flying FS9 (since Version 1, actually) - and I maintain my PCs myself. Your processor is OK. Your XP is just fine. Wish I had it on my flight sim PC instead of Windows 7 but, for some obscure technical reason, XP would not install. Put a bit more RAM in as FS9 takes advantage of this, but don't exceed 4 gig in total as XP only recognises a tad over 3 gig. I have an nVidia GTX560 Ti card which is just fine (you could save a bit of money here over the GT630). As for an SSD drive - why? OK, they load files a bit faster but to be perfectly honest my SATA hard drive works perfectly well and I don't notice any lags in the simulator. So save your cash! Hope this helps you and doesn't confuse! David
  2. Funny, but you ask a question about the FeelThere ERJ and get a lot of threads all extolling the virtues of the iFly 737! Shows one very interesting trait of the human race and that is to answer the question we think someone ought to have asked and not the one that they did, in fact, really ask!! For the record I have the iFly 737 and FS2Crew as well. I bought them just in case the developers decided to drop sales and support for FS2004. It is an immensely complex sim and not, in my opinion, the most sensible aircraft to upgrade to from flying a small twin prop. Hence the question about the ERJ which I have now decided to buy. Thanks anyway for the input - about the 737! David
  3. Some people don't make backups - fact. You say it is still possible to install these sceneries but you don't give any link(s). You're not thinking of torrent sites are you? David
  4. I am thinking of purchasing this aircraft as an introduction to flying jets before going for something much more complicated such as the iFly 737. OK, I know that the ERJ is not a "simple" aircraft but I'm hoping it will be a jumping off point for me. Also, it's available for a 50% discount at the moment. Does anyone have any views about this. Is there a better aircraft to start me off with? Many thanks for any advice. David
  5. Has anyone signed up for this yet? If so, then I would be grateful to hear what you think of it. Many thanks. David
  6. Hi Denis What do you mean by the Georender "other stuff"? David
  7. I have never, ever installed MSFS or any addon anywhere except in the Program Files folder structure and that goes for WIndows 7 and FS9 as well. That way I keep everything tidy. It's just a matter of making sure that you have full permission set to the FS9 folder, sub-folders and files. I have never had any problems or conflicts doing this. However, if you are not sure about permissions - which are fully described in the Windows 7 help area - then it's probably better to install everything outside of Program Files. Some posts I have read on the Internet about this would scare the pants off of anyone of a nervous disposition, leaving them to believe that installing anything in Program Files would invite armageddon to strike their PC! David
  8. Does this utility make any permanent effects to the monitor or graphics card? If not - and it only affects the sim - then do you have to create the settings each time you run FS9? Also, can you return to default settings? Many thanks for any info. David
  9. Thanks, everyone, for your replies. I've owned every version of MSFS since it first came out and I purchased all of Gary's work for FS9 as it came out as well. What I don't have, though, is the Extreme series. I've always been a bit "twitchy" about activation codes but you have put my mind at rest as regards UK2000. I will now be adding all of the Extreme airports as my budget allows. David
  10. I recently bought Stansted EGSS Extreme from SimMarket. Although their website stated that a registration key would be provided on download I was, instead, taken to UK2000's website for activation. I cannot find anything about UK2000's activation policy so would appreciate any user feedback regarding this. Are they "OK" in the same way as Flight1 is with their wrapper system? And, yes, I do know that UK2000 doesn't use a wrapper. Many thanks for any info. David
  11. I've always installed FS9 into the Program Files directory. Just change the permissions to the sim's folders and files - simple! David
  12. Whatever happened to the halycon days of WIndows XP when questions and problems of this nature just didn't exist? David
  13. Hi Jim, and welcome! I, too, am an old geezer but not a newbie having owned and flown every version of MSFS since Version 1. And I only like GA, prop driven, analogue gauge aircraft! If you don't mind spending a small amount of money then I can thoroughly recommend the Dreamfleet/Fllight 1 Beech Baron 58. It really is a dream of an aircraft and you won't be disappointed. If you decide to go for this then I suggest you get the "Lite" version as I don't think the Reality XP gauges will work with Windows 7 - at least they haven't for me. You might also want to consider the Eaglesoft/Flight 1 Piper Twin Comanche, but beware the manuals are a bit terse and I have read that their support can leave something to be desired. Otherwise, it is another great aircraft. Hope this helps. David
  14. Well, thank you for your most unhelpful reply. I asked if it is possible to re-install FS9 from a hard disk. I didn't ask if anyone would like to question my motive or reason. David
  15. I guess I could try this myself instead of asking but it would take a little while and might not work. If I copy all of my FS9 disks to a hard disk would it be possible to then re-install FS9 from that hard disk instead of all the individual CDs? If so, would I need to copy each CD to its own individual folder or would I just have to copy all four CDs to the same folder? Many thanks for any advice. David
  16. Hi Joe Many thanks for this. It led me to Peter's website where I found what I was looking for! Best wishes. David
  17. Peter McClelland once issued files to make the Dreamfleet Piper Archer II into a turbocharged version - one of his "Bandit" series. I have thrashed Google to within an inch of its life trying to find these but without any success. Does anyone know if they are still available and, if so, where? Many thanks in advance. David
  18. Thanks for this! I used to have a refuelling tool so I'm grateful to find one again. David
  19. Hm ?... The FlightSim link doesn't work now. David
  20. I just use the top down view in FS9 if I'm not sure where I am going and save $14.95 by not buying DBS Airport GPS.. Simple - and it works every time! David
  21. Shame about the registration thing. When I bought their excellent products I installed them in the FS9 Addon Folders and then made backup copies of the Scenery and Texture folders for each airport. When I reinstalled FS9 I just copied over my backups and had no need to regsiter or activate again. David
  22. As Rick said, try the Flight 1 forum. Their help is excellent. However, it seems to me that you may have a missing or corrupt font - but don't ask me which one it is! David
  23. OK then, but it's too small a sample for the results to be taken as meaningful and truly representative. David
  24. Any poll such as this one is likly to be distorted anyway because we do not know how many of those people who visit Avsim took part in the poll and we do not know the views of those who never visit Avsim. David
  25. Now I might get shot down in flames, but here goes! We are in the flight simulation hobby - right? OK, so far so good. Now a real world pilot might only get to be certified on maybe three or four a/c in his working career. He will fly those aircraft to the same airports to the extent that he will probably be able to fly SIDS and STARS into them with his eyes closed and taxi to the gate in a similar way once he has landed. Those airports won't change noticeably from day to day although there will, of course, be new ones built every now and again or another runway built after the inevitable enquiries into its viablilty etc. As for the scenery he flies over the only changes he will see are the seasons - that's if he has the time to notice. Now, it seems to me that as simulator enthusiasts we want to have a new a/c to fly almost every week and get bored if we fly the same one(s) time in and time out. We want better and better scenery although those who fly the aiways won't really notice it. It's true that we could do with more and detailed airports because there are so many in the world and most of them haven't either been created or enhanced for FS9. I've been flying the Flight 1 C172 for years now and have just progressed to the Dreamfleet Baron 58. I fly in the same part of Europe day after day and now know most of the airports quite well. Am I bored or do I need a constant change of a/c or scenery? Not one bit, because I am simulating the real life of an everyday pilot. Perhaps that's why I am content to continue flying FS9 since moving to any other simulator won't change the simlation of real life which is an integral part of being a simulator pilot. David
