I frequently fly the DC3 and the Basler turbo DC3. The gear, or undercarriage, was designed by British aircraft designer Neville Shute Norway (who also wrote novels as Neville Shute). The reason for the wheels being still half visible when retracted was to allow for a safe belly landing if the gear was damaged. The MSFS model does not allow this, any attempt to belly land results in a crash, and if crash detection is off, one simply bounces back up. Is there any way to modify the aircraft.cfg to allow this feature?

Does anyone navigate using dead reckoning?
mckeonj replied to LHookins's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
I have tried something like it in FS9; flying around Africa in a vintage open cockpit flying boat, coasting all the way, and getting bearings on NDBs, presuming they were broadcasting stations.. Refuelling was done only at established seaports, presuming that ships carrying fuel had been sent there. The hairiest part was flying across the Horn of Africa (Somalia) on magnetic compass heading; this was necessary because fuel range precluded coasting around. Coming down on land would have been the end of the flight, the plane, and both pilots. Incidentally; you obviously cannot 'land' a float plane; so what do you do? -
Reducing the Nose Dip Severity when Braking ?
mckeonj replied to garydpoole's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
I find that rapid 'blipping' if the brakes, using the trigger on the joystick, is quite effective; also try to keep the nose up when touching down with auto-braking on, so that the main gear wheel brakes do most of the work; the nose will drop as you reduce speed. Careful load distribution may help. -
I can highly reccomend Plan-G by Tim Arnott as a replacement for FSNav. The best part is its freeware/donation ware. Download from www.tasoftware.co.uk. It works with FS9 and FSX and has a selection of detailed maps, including 'Google' satellite view, over which your plane icon moves; it optionally shows AI and multiplayer planes. Flight plans can be imported from FS, or set up and edited in Plan-G, and exported to FS; flight plans and airport charts (from FS) can also be printed out. I also use and recommend FlightSim Commander, an excellent substitute for FSNav, but specific to FSX and is payware.

I made an attempt to purchase an aircraft, the Maule Orion.I entered the Market Place, and attempted to buy creditsI entered the Payment options page, which asked me for personal information; name, address, etc.I could not enter this information correctly, as it had me entered as being in the USA, which is incorrect, and there was no option to change this, either in the Windows Live page or the XBox page.Windows Live should have got my location from my IP address, but obviously did not. Please, Microsoft, will you put this right? There are people living outside the USA who might want to buy stuff from you. Also, how can I rid myself of any connection with that stupid XBox connection?

I have tried the demo version (free download) with FSX under Windows Vista. I have never used FSPassengers before, and I was very impressed - initially. It does exactly what it says on the tin, and very well. However, I found that I could not connect to FSCommander, and discovered on reading the FSPX forums that this is deliberate, the author will not use the FSUIPC or SimConnect interface, but instead an interface of his own design, built into the code. This is a pity; I will not purchase or use this otherwise excellent program unless the interface issue can be resolved. I will urge the author to introduce compatibility with FSUIPC/SimConnect, while retaining his own, no doubt admirable, interface.

Below is the text of an email I have sent to a group of correspendents who had trouble with textures missing in some of my published addon sceneries. This illustrates the problem: the questions are; does anyone else have this problem?, and, what can we do about it?---From: John McKeonTo: all my scenery contactsDate: Friday 30 SeptemberI have received a number of queries about two recent sceneries of mine, Cardington and Tangmere. I hope that this circular, which addresses the issues raised, will serve to answer your particular query.I have joined the Golden Wings project, which provides a pre-1939 Flight Simulator world, and all of my Vintage Airport sceneries will soon be re-issued in a format compatible with FS-VFR and FSGW global scenery, starting with Cardington.Golden Wings can be found athttp://windrfters.comMay I also recommend to you the aircraft and scenery offered by the VFR Addons database, athttp://www.vfraddons.co.ukTangmere: missing texturesIf buildings or trees are showing white at Tangmere, you are missing NOVA and NOVAGOLD textures, or the Trees library: check the Readme file for details.Cardington: missing texturesIf certain ground areas show white, you are missing some legacy texture files from FS2000/2002 which are absent or renamed in FS9 and FSGW. I will package and post them on the library sites as a fix, but here is a quick fix:The offenders are called: ASPHALT.BMP & ASPHALT.R8, GRASS.BMP, PRARIE.BMP.Find suitable ones in a texture folder, copy and rename as above. PRARIE is just very rough grass, ASPHALT is concrete divided into 8x8 squares. For example, find GRASS_SU.BMP in FS2002, copy to FS9/Texture, and rename the copy GRASS.BMP, or copy and rename TEXTURE.BMP in Cardington/Texture folder. It is a very useful sort of grey smudge which could be anything.Cardington: "patchwork" textures, only affecting "Golden Wings" scenery(solution in email from John Burford, thanks John)>John,>Re my earlier mails relating to texture problems and a green and black>"tartan" effect at the VLA's, Tangmere etc. and in various sceneries by>other designers when used in GW, the forum folk seem to have found the>answer.>It requires asphalt.bmp and asphalt.r8 from the original FS9 to be moved in>to replace the ones in the main texture folder and in your scenery folders>(I should do some housekeeping to clear up duplications, but at least I >have>the textures now!)>Hope you have not been saturated with correspondence about this, but I'm>glad I know the answer now.
