Loss of FSNav

Featured Replies

Years ago I purchased FSNav and used it for FS2K2 and FS9. It is the only purchased product that I own that I have lost the license key for. My fault.

After my recent new comp purchase and long reinstal process I installed FSNav470 after being told that this version was issued by the program's author as a freeware product which did not require registration. This is not true as I found out today when FSNav told me that I'd used my 20 free 'goes' and that I'd have to register.

So, two questions. Is there really a freeware 'last' version of FSNav available, and if so, could someone point me in the right direction for it? It's not 470 - unless I'm doing something wrong.

If FSNav is 'over' for me, fair enough, my fault for losing my reg key, is there anything else on the market that replaces it? Really I'm only interested in it's moving map features. I know that real pilots don't have FSNav and moving maps, but I'm not a real pilot. I just like it. I dislike the MS FS map intensly.

Any help or advice, as ever, much appreciated.

Oh dear, what a complete idiot I am. I'd already asked most of these questions here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/373845-fs-navigator-replacement/

So let me change my questions a little.

Is there really a freeware version of FSNav available that does not require registration. It is not FSNav470, because that's the one that has just told me my time is up.

Have a look at Gmap http://fswidgets.com...nload_files.php. It's has a moving map based on Google maps. Works pretty well.

Thanks for that, but I'm looking for something that works in FS9. I don't have a tablet/iPad. Help appreciated though.

Gavin,

FSNav is now available as freeware. You can download it from quite a few sites (like this http://www.flightsim....php?fileid=435 ) and in case you lost your own key, you can use the freely available set of register data (it is needed for its mechanism to accept the registration process). If you can't find it, just PM me and I will help you in no time. By the way it is 4.70 - there is no later version. And don't forget to update it with Navigraph (if you do have some credits)!

As for FSWidgets, I also use their EFB+GMap. There is an EFB version for PC for FS9: http://fswidgets.com...&products_id=35 . It has a great moving map projected on Google Maps.

It is extremely pleasant to watch your route live on the map. Plus you can watch any airport or enroute charts. I use a second monitor for it, not to bother my cockpit.

But, of course, in no way is it a flightplanning tool wich could replace FSNav. I bought the FSW stuff at a nice discount sale, but if you are only interested in the GMap, it is 100% free to use. http://fswidgets.com...gmap_fs9_20.zip

I also own FSCommander, and it is nice too. It shows AI and online traffic, as well as your flightplan with all navaids.

But its graphics and interface are not fully convincing to me, so I have lately found myself launching it quite rarely.

For flightplanning there is nothing better for me than a combo of vRoute Standard and FSNav - both free of charge :excl:

I can highly reccomend Plan-G by Tim Arnott as a replacement for FSNav.

The best part is its freeware/donation ware.

Download from www.tasoftware.co.uk.

It works with FS9 and FSX and has a selection of detailed maps, including 'Google' satellite view, over which your plane icon moves; it optionally shows AI and multiplayer planes.

Flight plans can be imported from FS, or set up and edited in Plan-G, and exported to FS; flight plans and airport charts (from FS) can also be printed out.

I also use and recommend FlightSim Commander, an excellent substitute for FSNav, but specific to FSX and is payware.

There is a version for FS2004 that works on your PC as well as versions for the iPad/iPhone and Android.

Thanks Rafal. So what am I doing wrong then? If 4.70 is freeware, why does it stop working for me after 20 runs? Perhaps I am missing something, is there some freeware registration code I'm supposed to enter?

I agree vRoute and FSNav are my favourites. I'd love to get FSNav working again.

FSCommander is for Both FS9 and FSX.

Like I wrote above, you must enter a registration. If you lost yours, use the freely available one.

You can search for it or wait one minute for a PM from me. ;)

Clear Rafal thanks.

And once again my problem has been completely resolved thanks to Rafal's help.

Thank you also to everyone else who offered assistance - much appreciated. The FS9 forum is the best :friends:

Good Grief.... :shok: ...!

Since when did FS Navigator become freely available to everyone!...

Lots of Folks have tried the "so-called" Freeware version, without any luck!.... =@ ...!

Plan-G is an excellent alternative for all those unfortunate not to own the original registered version.

Paul....FS 2004....FS Navigator...and my genuine FS Nav Key stored in Fort Knox for safe keeping... ...!

My whole FS Nav Installation and Key is stored on a number of separate CD's!

..the same with my lovely LAGO FSSE/FSE programs.

They would be irreplaceable, if lost!

Agree....

Off topic a bit, but can FSNav 4.70 be modified to work in FSX?

Dom

can FSNav 4.70 be modified to work in FSX?

I am not a programmer, but as far as I know the answer is no. Sorry.

My FS Navigator, (and my LAGO FSE) is/are one of the main reason(s) why I am firmly welded to FS 2004, for the foreseeable future....Big%20Grin.gif .... (even though I also have FSX....Black%20Eye.gif ),

Paul...FS 2004...and a big grin!... ...!

It didn't.

The fact that the developer cannot be contacted and that somebody published a registration code does not make it free.

The "freeware" version (v4.70) is the last-published version which had a "try before you buy" option and which also gave free registration to a small proportion of users (presumably on a random basis). Nothing has changed there.

There has been much discussion before about defunct products falling into the public domain before. It may be convenient to say they do, but I do not believe law supports that idea. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abandonware .
