  1. I have a feeling that your IP address will be the next thing banned here. Good bye.
  2. How much memory and video memory do you have? FSX, when it comes close to using up available memory, will stop drawing buildings and such to try and improve performance.
  3. If you're looking for a 747-400, there's really no question about who to go with.http://www.precisionmanuals.comI'm not aware of any other payware 747s out there that even come close to PMDGs offering.
  4. This thread has officially crossed over into ridiculous. As much as I disagree with Dave T. on some things, I have enough respect for him that I don't think he'd stoop to that level.
  5. 'But it is sensitive to airspeed and gives totally bogus values at high speed and high altitude.'Technically speaking, the temperature reading given on the default temperature gauge is the correct total air temperature. The reason it's so high is that as the air at the probe is slowed and compressed, the temperature rises, thus you can have an inflight reading of the TAT at 37000 feet being in the range of -20-30 C or so. However, an Air Data Computer can take TAT and convert that to static air temperature, or the ambient temperature, which is what your gauge shows. (If I understand your post correctly)Of course, with FS, this is all accomplished through formulas and the sim engine, so the actual physics of total air temperature don't come into play.
  6. I actually prefer this one over PMDG's 737. Probably because I'm a fan of those hybrid 'glass/steam' cockpits. I'm happy with it, and it nicely fills a void left since FS2002 and Dreamfleet's 734.The documentation is adaquate, but don't expect anything on the level of PMDG's 744 (Still the most complete operating manual that I've seen). For that price, I think that it would be worth getting. Just make sure to get the service packs from justflight's website after installing.
  7. I'll have to take a look at the Marchetti. I'd meant to get it for FS9 some time ago, but never got around to it.
  8. From my understanding, Abandonware is usually a program that is either so old that the original writer is out of business, or is so old that the writer doesn't care about the copyright anymore. Without talking to the original copyright holder, though, it would be difficult to know for sure if this program is abandoned, or not.
  9. Are there any aircraft that were developed specifically for FSX right now? My understanding is that the payware A/C that are out for FSX now are merely ports from FS9, not true FSX airplanes.
  10. "PMDG why didint you include the engine heat effect on the 744 ?"Probably because there isn't a way to do it without the effect looking cheesy, like it does in LOMAC.
  11. The 0704 procedures are the first ones that I've downloaded from your site, so I don't have access to the 0703 ones, unless there's an archive on your site that I've missed. No airports or procedures work. I've tried it at a number of airports, and at each one, I get a CTD when I select the DEP/ARR button.I couldn't positively say for sure that the AIRAC is not at fault here. However, if I install the terminal procedures included with the Navigraph release for 0704 over the 0704 planepath procedures, the CTD goes away. The problem with that is that the Navigraph database is missing a considerable number of procedures.I loaded flight plans from KPHL to KDAY and KSLC to KIDA. Both of these routes caused CTD's when the DEP/ARR button was pressed. Since I can't get into the procedures menu, I was not able to select any DPs or STARs.This isn't that big of a deal, though. Don't stress yourself over it. I can work around it easily enough. If you can find something wrong, great. If not, no worries. Thanks for your help. :7
  12. Terry,First off, I'd like to express my appreciation for your work. It's good to see someone who is willing to sacrifice of themselves for others. Now my problem. :-)I updated my Wilco CRJ navdata with the 0704 cycle from Navigraph. I then updated my procedures using the CRJ file from your website. When pressing the DEP/ARR key on the CRJ FMC, my screen would go blank, and then I would get a CTD. This happens with the 200, 700, and 900 series. When I revert my procedures back to the ones in your beta file here on Avsim, the CTD goes away, and I can select departures and arrivals once again. Is there any light that you could shed on what is happening here? Thanks!
  13. Indeed, that was it. Realized that when I went to check my fs9.cfg to see if there was something in there that was messed up. Thanks!
  14. Can anyone help me figure this out? Recently, I've noticed a 'hard blurry boundary', like the one shown here.http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i157/jcm...nary/blurry.jpgAny ideas on how I can remedy this? It's not so bad down low, but above 12,000 feet it looks pretty bad. Thanks in advance.
  15. In my opinion, the only things that VOXATC has over RC is their voice recognition and the text-to-speech technology, which allows it to say anything it wants, essentially. However, be prepared to spend some extra money to get realistic sounding voices with VOXATC. The default voices are the robotic Microsoft voices. To get a taste of what the default voices sound like, go to your Control Panel in Windows, go to Speech, and select 'Microsoft Sam' from the drop-down box. Those are the types of voices you will hear without purchasing additional TTS voices.RC works with FS's native AI traffic, while VOXATC generates its own traffic, but that traffic won't be visible to you. VOXATC for FSX supposedly generates traffic that is visible, but it won't use your traffic file to do so. It utilizes a workaround where AI traffic is displayed via the multiplayer interface. So it won't use those realistic flight plans that are included with a number of payware traffic addons. Having both, I can say that RC is the superior program at the moment. A greater variety of voices, and a more open-ended ATC system are RC's strengths. Having said that, I would love to see RC integrate speech recognition and TTS technology. It would make the experience that much better. Unfortunately, it would make the product that much more expensive, due to the drawbacks in purchasing new voices mentioned above.Hope this helps you in making a decision.
  16. Yup.I just bought PSS's 777 through Just Flight. For only $30, you get the 200 and 300 variants, plus a boatload of liveries. Quite a deal, IMO.
  17. Don't forget to get a 3 hour block of time. :-)IIRC, thats about as long as it took me to record my pilot/controller set a few years ago. Still, it's a lot of fun, and it's hard to beat being able to have your own voice for your ATC communications in FS.
  18. The company traffic call is fairly common here at KSLC, with all the SkyWest flights coming and going.
  19. Yup. I've been using Wilco's CRJs as a stopgap, but I'm still eagerly awaiting a first class CRJ package....
  20. Unfortunately, we're under an NDA concerning the fixes in SP1. As soon as it's lifted, I'm sure you'll see a bunch of testers here posting about their experiences with SP1.
  21. I know this is a little late, but yes, you can disable this feature. I do it all the time with the Arrows I fly while practicing slow flight and power-on stalls. I always turn it back on, though, when I'm done. I also check my gear on base and final, too.
  22. "Hence, even today the pilot still has to control the mixture of the gas/air going into the carburator and FADECs are still a thing of the future."The DA-42 that I was doing my multi in had a pretty nice FADEC setup. No mixture or prop levers here. We actually had to get clarification from the FAA that the hours flown in it can be logged as complex, since the prop pitch is not directly controlled by the pilot. And it runs on Jet A. How cool is that? :-)
  23. "1. 2X frame rate performance improvement (using equal quality settings - no cheating Aces)2. Significantly improved visual quality over FS9"These two, IMO, will make or break FSX in terms of it becoming the 'mainstream' flight sim. If we still see poor performance after DX10, I guess we'll have to see if FSXI will save the FS franchise. However, even if DX10 meets and surpasses all expectations, there will still be quite a few who won't/can't upgrade to Vista to take advantage of it. Even the cost alone will be enough to deter more than a few. For example:New DX10 Video Card: $300-$400 (I hope that there are some DX10 budget cards out be then, but right now I'll assume that there won't be)Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade: $160Memory upgrade: $100 (assuming one is running with 1GB of RAM already)Right now, you're looking at nearly $600 to get DX10 functionality, and this is assuming that you're happy with your current configutation, and are only needing to upgrade the above items.I hope that FSX-DX10 is successful, I really do. I think it has a lot of potential. However, I still remain skeptical of whether or not ACES can deliver on giving us ground-breaking visuals, while keeping performance up. Time will tell.
  24. I hope that we can get decent framerates, as well, with the DX10 update. I was planning on doing a complete rebuild last August, but have pushed it back to this August. This was meant to allow Vista to mature a little, as well as letting DX10 hardware develop. IMHO, the DX10 update will make or break FSX in terms of it becoming the 'mainline' sim. Time will tell.
  25. I changed RAM once and my video card twice, and never had any problems with activation. Your mileage may vary, though. :-)
